SALINA - A full-blown shootout was materializing Friday night, when Great Bend High School went toe-to-toe with Salina Central in Class 5A District 6 football action at Salina Stadium.
The Salina Central High School Mustangs finally got over the hump against crosstown rival Salina South last Friday, winning for the first time in three years in their city grudge match, 31-28, at Salina Stadium.
It will be the Class 5A District 6 showdown tonight, when underdog Great Bend High School (3-3 overall) takes on Salina Central (5-2) at Salina Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7.
Taking second place at the Class 5-1A State Bowling Tournament as an individual is an achievement in itself.
The first area high school basketball team to step up to take the floor in state-tournament action is Central Plains' girls.
