SALINA - A full-blown shootout was materializing Friday night, when Great Bend High School went toe-to-toe with Salina Central in Class 5A District 6 football action at Salina Stadium.
The Salina Central High School Mustangs finally got over the hump against crosstown rival Salina South last Friday, winning for the first time in three years in their city grudge match, 31-28, at Salina Stadium.
It will be the Class 5A District 6 showdown tonight, when underdog Great Bend High School (3-3 overall) takes on Salina Central (5-2) at Salina Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7.
Class 3A sub-state
In a perfect scenario, visiting Great Bend High School will beat Salina Central Friday night, giving the Panthers the Class 5A District 6 football championship.
HAYS - The Hoisington High School volleyball team finished with a perfect record in the Mid-Central Activities Association after sweeping its league championship on Saturday.

HOISINGTON - The Central Plains High School Oilers tennis team placed first at the Hoisington Invitational on April 10, with a total of 28 team points - 12 points over second-place Scott City in the four-team tournament.
Morgan Harwood led the 2013-14 Great Bend High School girls' basketball team in points and rebounds in several games.
