Hanzlick sparks Cardinals past Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH -- Hoisington tailback Hunter Hanzlick scored four touchdowns to lead the Cardinals past Ellsworth 39-20 in a Class 3A, District 15 football game. Hoisington (7-0, 1-0 District) plays at Larned (1-6, 1-0) next week. Hanzlick rushed for 187 yards and pushed his season totals to 1,198 yards and 19 TDs. The Cardinals gained 446 yards.

GBMS 8th football loses

The Great Bend Middle School 8th grade football team lost its final game of the season 35-6 to Hays. GBMS rushed for 153 yards as backs Wiley Brand and Mason Miranda combined for 137 yards. Brand scored on a 34-yard touchdown.

GBMS 7th-graders lose

The Great Bend Middle School 7th-grade football team lost to Hays 30-0 Thursday. QB Scott Heilman completed eight passes for 90 yards. Sage Koelsch completed five passes for 70 yards. Joseph Moeder had six receptions for 70 yards. Paco Hernandez caught three passes for 25 yards. Aaron Stein had four receptions for 25 yards. Brody Feist and Demetrius Legarreta each had one reception for 20 yards. The Panthers finish with a 1-6 record.

Cardinal girls place third at 3-1A golf

GARDEN CITY - Hoisington's girls golf team continued its streak of placing at state golf by capturing a second consecutive third-place trophy at the Class 3-1A state tournament. It marked the fifth time the Cardinals have captured a third-place state trophy.

Great Bend golfer places fifth

WICHITA - Great Bend's Allison Neeland earned a top five finish with a 90 that tied Mill Valley's Isabella Hadden for fourth place in the Class 5A girls state golf championship at Crestview Country Club's north course. Neeland lost a two-hole playoff to place fifth.

Cardinals roar past Panthers

HOISINGTON – Hoisington tailback Hunter Hanzlick rushed for four touchdowns and gained 154 yards to spark the Cardinals past Nickerson 64-8 in a Central Kansas League rout Friday night. The Cardinals (6-0, 4-0 CKL) rushed for 332 yards.

Ellinwood’s late rally falls short at Goessel

GOESSEL - Ellinwood nearly rallied from a 50-28 deficit against Goessel, only to lose another heartbreaker 50-48 Friday when a 2-point attempt failed with 10:46 left in the 8-man football game. The Eagles scored three touchdowns, but failed on a 2-point attempt to tie.
