A high-powered offense carried the Great Bend High School baseball team to a 13-8 win over Junction City in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at the City of Great Bend Sport Complex.
As the Western Athletic Conference baseball and softball races heat up, it will tend to bring plenty more fanfare to the City of Great Bend Sports Complex.
BUHLER - As it turned out, Great Bend High School took home fourth-place finishes on Friday at the Buhler Invitational track and field meet.
GARDEN CITY - This is exactly what Great Bend High School head boys' tennis coach Shannon Schartz was expecting before the spring season began.
ULYSSES - The Larned High School baseball team split a doubleheader at Ulysses on Friday, winning 8-7 in nine innings in the first game before falling 11-1 in the nightcap.
Both teams entered the Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader undefeated.
HAYS - Hoisington's Ball brothers got off to a rousing start in the Class 3-1A state wrestling championship. The trio of Ball brothers - three-time state champion Brandon Ball, Jonathan Ball and Christopher Ball - all won three matches to qualify for the Class 3-1A state finals Saturday night. No trio of brothers had ever qualified or won state wrestling titles in the same year.
PARK CITY - Three Great Bend High School wrestlers placed in the top six at the Class 5A State Tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City.

PARK CITY - Three Great Bend High School wrestlers lost their quarterfinal matches after winning their first matches at Friday's Class 5A State Tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City. The top two finishers will meet for the state championship Saturday night.
