WICHITA - Austin Stout captured a pair of fourth-place finishes at the Class 6-1A state track and field championships for the Hoisington High School boys - one in the 300-meter hurdles (41.12 seconds) and one in the high jump (six feet, two inches).
Mainstays for the Great Bend High School Panthers baseball team, seniors Mitch Kottas, Jace Bowman and Connor Sell have been named as All-Western Athletic Conference first-team selections in a vote by league coaches.
WICHITA - Larned High School's Carrie Kellie won a Class 4A state title in the triple jump (36-9), and also finished third in the long jump (17 feet, 3 1/4 inches) on Friday at the 6-1A state track and field championships.
Great Bend faced a formidable foe but proved up to the task as the Panthers took a 2-0 sweep over visiting Hutchinson to close out the regular season Thursday. Following a 6-2 victory in game one, the Panthers found themselves in a battle but were able to hold off a Salt Hawk rally late in the game to win the second contest, 2-1.
ELLINWOOD- The 4x800 relay team of Quincy Smith, Clay Cooper, Triston Long and Gerardo Calleros finished with a first place time of 8:40.57 at Thursday's Central Prarie League Meet. As a team, the Tiger boys placed seventh out of a nine-team competition with 44 points. Ness City was the top finisher at 98.
Due to wet field conditions today's Panther baseball games against Larned, originally scheduled to be played at home, have been moved to Larned's Moffett Field with the first pitched scheduled for 5 p.m. The JV games will be played at Jordaan Park in Larned.
