HOISINGTON - The Hoisington High School Cardinals wrestling team, following their fourth-place finish at the Bob Kuhn Classic in Hays, took first place at the Cardinal Classic Wrestling Tournament on Friday.
EMPORIA - Curbing a fourth-quarter comeback bid, Shawnee Heights High School held on for a 38-35 victory over Great Bend on Saturday in the seventh-place game of the 38th Annual Glacier's Edge Girls Basketball Tournament.
EMPORIA - This has been a trying season for the Great Bend High School Lady Panthers, who had the titanic task of taking on Olathe South Thursday evening at the Glacier's Edge Girls Basketball Tournament.
HUTCHINSON- For the first time this season the Panther girls swim team had a taste of silver. During Tuesday's six team meet at Hutchinson, Great Bend found themselves with a second place finish....a position they are unaccustomed after finishing in first place in their previous six meets.
BUHLER- Last Friday's track and field postponement at Buhler was never an issue for the Panther boys track and field team. In fact, it was just what the doctor ordered. Great Bend ended the day with a number of individual best performances for the season as the Panthers finished Tuesday's makeup with a total of 75 team points and a second place finish. Garden City was the top finisher with 89 points. The Panther out performed their counterparts from Hutchinson by a four point margin as the Salthawks finished third in the 12 team meet.
SALINA- Nick Reed posted second and third place finishes in the long jump and 200 meter run and helped lead the 4X400 relay to a second place slot at Monday's jv track and field meet hosted by Salina Central.
KANSAS CITY- According to John Madden, one knee equals two feet. For the Panther softball team, two Hunters equal one no-hitter. It was a perfect outing from the circle for Hunter Middleton and Hunter Marcum. Throw in a high octane hitting attack by the Panthers and the math adds up 20-0 blowout of Shawnee Mission West in Friday's opening round of the two-day Sunflower Classic.
Due to inclement weather forecasted for the area today, this evening's home soccer game between Great Bend and Manhattan has been postponed until Monday, May 11 at Cavanaugh Fields. Start time is 4 p.m.
HUTCHINSON- Make it six, please! Shaking off some mid season fatigue, the Great Bend girls swim team swiped another gold finish and their sixth straight of the season at Thursday's quadrangular at Hutchinson.
