BOULDER, Co.- Members of the GBHS volleyball team attended the University of Colorado Team Destination Camp July 16-18th in Boulder. The Panthers completed camp in the top three along with teams from Texas and Wyoming.
The GBHS Panther volleyball team will be holding an end of summer swim party on Wednesday, August 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Club West. Admission is $2 per person (covers lifeguards). Attendees may bring snacks and drinks will be provided. For more information contact Alana Blessinng at 786-1393.
The sport of wrestling in Great Bend has a long and proud tradition. Countless athletes and their families have enjoyed the personal growth and close family atmosphere associated with Great Bend wrestling.
Renewal notices for Great Bend High School reserved season football ticket have been mailed to 2014 season ticket holders. Fans who held tickets last year but did not receive notification must contact the USD 428 activities office at 620-793-1560. Seating will open to the public later in August once the renewal process is complete. Home games for Great Bend High School are Sept. 4 vs. Leavenworth, Oct. 2 vs. Dodge City (Homecoming), Oct. 9 vs. Liberal and Oct. 23 vs. Salina Central.
The GBHS varsity volleyball team won first place in the Barton Summer League tournament defeating Central Plains in the championship. The team will head to the University of Colorado Team Camp at Boulder July 16-18th. The Great Bend JV finished in second place in their tournament.
SALINA – St. John's Dean Wade, headed for Kansas State University, scored 15 points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds to help the White team roll past the Blue team 118-91 in Saturday's Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Boys All-Star Game at Mabee Arena.
Local kids ranging from first grade to eighth grade converged on the Memorial Stadium turf this week to improve their football field skills. Head high school coach Tony Crough and his full staff of coaches were on hand to lead athletes through position specific drills. Athletes worked on fundamentals such as throwing, catching, passing and run blocking, firing off the ball, hip movement, proper stance and footwork as well as team blocking concepts, learning plays, and reading defenses.

Great Bend Middle School will hold two football equipment sizing sessions. The first will take place on Monday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. for eighth grade boys followed by the seventh grade at 6:30 p.m. The second sizing session will be held on Monday, July 6 at the same times. Athletes will meet at the GBMS field house located just west of the middle school. Athletes only need to attend one date. For more information contact coach Jason Perry at (620) 792-9625.
More than fifty participants were involved at this week's football camp held at Memorial Stadium. The camp was faciliated by members of the GBHS football team and coaching staff. The three-day camp concludes Wednesday.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN- Jackie Stiles, the legendary basketball and track and field star at Claflin High School during the 1990s, is among 12 individuals who will be inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) National High School Hall of Fame July 2 at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, Louisiana. The 33rd Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be the closing event of the 96th annual NFHS Summer Meeting.

HAYS- Former Great Bend Panthers Kaylie and Kelsie Doll, Ellinwood's Michelle Miller and Larned's Jessica Johnson were recently named to the MIAA Academic Excellence Award list for the spring 2015 semester.
In recent years there has been ongoing discussion regarding a potential change in distance for KSHSAA high school girls cross country. Surveys of coaches and athletic directors have reflected increasing support to increase the girls' race distance from 4K to 5K in KSHSAA postseason competition. During the October 2014 KSHSAA Regional Administrator meetings, this was a topic of conversation in part, due to a letter from the U.S. Office of Civil Rights notifying KSHSAA of a complaint OCR received.
