Great Bend wrestler places second

MCPHERSON - Great Bend's Breanna Ridgeway placed runner-up in the middle school division of the War of the Roses wrestling tounament Sunday at McPherson. Ridgeway competed in the 6th-8th grade 130-139-pound division. Ridgeway won three matches on pins and lost 12-1 for first place against Ashondra Valencia of Team Tulsa.

Hoisington coach earns national honor

HAYS - Longtime Hoisington High golf coach Bruce Cooper received the 2017 National Coach of the Year award Friday at the Class 3A state wrestling championship. The award is presented by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association.

Great Bend's Isaac Panzer earned Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year honors. Great Bend coach Steve Beaumont earned WAC Coach of the Year hinors for the WAC champions. Great Bend scored 405 points to capture the WAC team title.
