Great Bend senior Jeff Mietler was selected to be on the All Kansas State Bowling team. The Panther captain ended the season with an average of 218. At the conclusion of the regular season, Jeff was named the Most Valuable Player in the WAC and was also named to the All WAC First Team. Mietler anchored the Great Bend boys to a regional runner-up finish and a third place finish at the state tournament.

ANDOVER- Morgan Kottas was perfect for the game hitting 3 for 3 including a pair of doubles in a 5-3 loss to Andover in the first round of a Tuesday doubleheader. The Panthers then went on a 12-run tirade in the second game and shutout the Trojans, 12-0 to split the series.
LIBERAL- Redskin ace Cole Evans pitched six innings allowing four hits and a run to lead Liberal to a 3-1 edging over visiting Great Bend in the first part of Tuesday's twin bill. The Panthers launched a late-game attack but could not overcome an early deficit and fell to Liberal 8-6 in the second game giving the Redskins the two-game sweep.
ELLINWOOD- Great Bend boys jv track finished with 77 team points and a fourth place finish out of nine teams at Tuesday's junior varsity meet in Ellinwood. Meanwhile the Panther girls jv finished sixth with 38 points.
Great Bend forward Keely Ireland belted out three goals while fellow sophomores Araceli Delgadillo and Melani Garcia scored a goal each to lead the Panthers to a 6-1 win over visiting Liberal in Tuesday afternoon play.
BUHLER- Grant Harris swept through the first round of singles play as the Great Bend tennis team posted a second place finish at Tuesday's quadrangular in Buehler. Buhler won the quad with 27 team points, while the Panthers finished with 12.
MAIZE- Wet field conditions, stranded runners and six errors proved costly for Great Bend as the Panthers fell in a 9-3 regional decision Tuesday to Salina-South in Maize. Tuesday's regional was called in the fifth inning due to an increasingly wet playing surface as rain showers continued to cause havoc for grounds crews.
Due to inclement weather forecasted for the area, today's 5A Region 1 softball tournament at the Great Bend Sports Complex has been postponed and moved to Thursday, May 21. Starting times for the tournament remain as originally scheduled.
MAIZE- The Great Bend girls soccer team will face No. 3 seed Maize South (13-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening in the girls 5A Region 3 tournament hosted by Maize South. Great Bend (4-11-1) is listed as the 14th seed. Other Region 3 competition includes 11th seed Liberal (5-10-1) taking on Andover Central (10-5-1, 6th seed) in a 5 p.m. contest at Andover Central Tuesday. The Region 3 championship game will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at Maize South.
The 2015 WAC champion Great Bend softball team will take on Emporia at 4:30 p.m. in the second round of the Region 1 tournament Tuesday, May 19. The Great Bend Sports Complex will be the venue for this year's regional. The Great Bend vs. Emporia matchup will follow the tournament opener between Wichita Heights and Maize South at 3 p.m. The championship game will take place at or around 6 p.m. that evening at GBSC.
Great Bend faced a formidable foe but proved up to the task as the Panthers took a 2-0 sweep over visiting Hutchinson to close out the regular season Thursday. Following a 6-2 victory in game one, the Panthers found themselves in a battle but were able to hold off a Salt Hawk rally late in the game to win the second contest, 2-1.
