Area Football Week 1: Tigers anxious to test 6-man waters

ROZEL - Things change so fast in 6-man football that Pawnee Heights' first football opponent has changed. The Tigers will play Wheatland-Grinell Friday instead of Western Plains. It's the Tigers' first football game since 2010 when Pawnee Heights kicks off the inaugural six-man football season in Kansas.

Lady Panthers split volleyball opener

GARDEN CITY - Great Bend's volleyball team split a pair of Western Athletic matches - losing to Garden City 25-14, 25-12, but rallying to beat Liberal 25-22, 25-17 in a hard-fought match Thursday. Camryn Dunekack led the Garden City match with five kills and six digs.

Larned, Keenan sweep first

CONCORDIA – Larned High senior Dorothy Keenan shot an 85 to capture medalist honors as the Indians won the Concordia team golf title with a 1-2-3 finish Tuesday. Larned's 387 team total was 30 strokes ahead of Clay Center.

West wins Division 2 game

BELOIT - Wallace County's Eric Gfeller accounted for five touchdowns and Victoria's Brady Dinkel scored two touchdowns and intercepted two passes as the West beat the East 42-34 in the Eight-Man 2 All-Star game. Axtell's Colton Buessing threw three touchdown passes and Alex McDaniel scored two touchdowns for the East.

Hoisington boys and girls track squads finish strong at state

The Hoisington girls and boys squads finished with some very strong performances at the Class 3A State Track Meet this past weekend. The girls team qualified three individuals for state and picked up medals with two of their team members. Jocelynn Pedigo (10) got the lady Cards off to a good start when she threw the discus 112-02 to pick up the 6th place medal.
