Proposal to modify 4-1A football classes fails to receive 146 majority votes needed

TOPEKA - The Kansas State High School Activities Association reports a proposal to modify Class 4A, 3A and 2-1A for football classes failed to receive the 146 votes needed in favor to constitute a majority of the 290 impacted schools. The final tally indicated 101 schools voted in favor of the proposed changes.

Panthers escape GC with narrow victories, secure WAC championship

GARDEN CITY- A pair of home runs by senior Dakota Sanders added some needed momentum for the GBHS softball team as the Panthers edged host Garden City in the first of a WAC doubleheader Thursday. Great Bend then broke a 7-7 tie in game two with a two-run extra inning eighth to beat the Buffs 9-7 to earn the series sweep.

Former Panther Jordan Haney hitting 4 for 7 at KCAC Championships

Following a two for three performance in Wednesday's opening game of the KCAC Softball Championship, Great Bend native and Tabor College senior Jordan Haney went one for two with an RBI on Thursday as the Bluejays posted 3-1 and 4-0 victories over Bethany College and Southwestern University. Middleton surpasses century mark in strikeouts in wins over Hays

HAYS- Hunter Middleton would be $110 richer for the number of opposing batters she has retired this season. Middleton combined for 13 strikeouts over a two-game span putting her well over the 100 season strikeout mark as visiting Great Bend swept Hays in a road makeup game Tuesday.

Great Bend splits with Hays

Tuesday's 14-1 opening round loss to Hays is an occasion coach Randy Beck and the Panthers would very much like to put out of their minds. They did. Following the defeat in the first round, the Panthers scattered ten runs over the third through sixth innings to take a 12-7 victory in the closer.

St. John girls place third, boys fourth at Larned meet

LARNED- St. John girls track and field team garnered 71 points and a third place finish out of seven teams at Tuesday's meet in Larned. Larned won the girls division with 148 team points. In boys competition, the Tigers finished in fourth place with 76 points while Thomas More Prep (Hays) won top honors with 147 points.

Girls swim team finishes second at Hutch

HUTCHINSON- For the first time this season the Panther girls swim team had a taste of silver. During Tuesday's six team meet at Hutchinson, Great Bend found themselves with a second place finish....a position they are unaccustomed after finishing in first place in their previous six meets.

Panther boys track wins second place at Buhler Invitational

BUHLER- Last Friday's track and field postponement at Buhler was never an issue for the Panther boys track and field team. In fact, it was just what the doctor ordered. Great Bend ended the day with a number of individual best performances for the season as the Panthers finished Tuesday's makeup with a total of 75 team points and a second place finish. Garden City was the top finisher with 89 points. The Panther out performed their counterparts from Hutchinson by a four point margin as the Salthawks finished third in the 12 team meet.

Panthers post 3-1 record at Sunflower Classic

KANSAS CITY- According to John Madden, one knee equals two feet. For the Panther softball team, two Hunters equal one no-hitter. It was a perfect outing from the circle for Hunter Middleton and Hunter Marcum. Throw in a high octane hitting attack by the Panthers and the math adds up 20-0 blowout of Shawnee Mission West in Friday's opening round of the two-day Sunflower Classic.
