WICHITA- The 4X400 relay team of Jeffery Muiruri, Mason YellowWolf, Ty Yager and Antonio Carrasco ran a season best 3:29 in the Elite Division and posted a first place finish to help the Panther track and field team to four of their seven gold medals at this week's Shocker Pre State Challenge.

RUSSELL- Russell's girls track and field team dominated the competition at Thursday's home meet with a first place finish and a final team score of 98 points out of five teams. Hutch Trinity, Ellsworth, Hoisington and Hays-TMP-Marian rounded out the rest of the competition with scores of 86, 67, 61 and 59.

GARDEN CITY- Turning to its senior leadership Thursday night, the Garden City girls soccer team scored three goals within a three minute span in the second half and added another score for good measure late in the period for a 4-0 shutout victory over visiting Great Bend.

Great Bend senior Jeff Mietler was selected to be on the All Kansas State Bowling team. The Panther captain ended the season with an average of 218. At the conclusion of the regular season, Jeff was named the Most Valuable Player in the WAC and was also named to the All WAC First Team. Mietler anchored the Great Bend boys to a regional runner-up finish and a third place finish at the state tournament.

ANDOVER- Morgan Kottas was perfect for the game hitting 3 for 3 including a pair of doubles in a 5-3 loss to Andover in the first round of a Tuesday doubleheader. The Panthers then went on a 12-run tirade in the second game and shutout the Trojans, 12-0 to split the series.

LIBERAL- Redskin ace Cole Evans pitched six innings allowing four hits and a run to lead Liberal to a 3-1 edging over visiting Great Bend in the first part of Tuesday's twin bill. The Panthers launched a late-game attack but could not overcome an early deficit and fell to Liberal 8-6 in the second game giving the Redskins the two-game sweep.

ELLINWOOD- Great Bend boys jv track finished with 77 team points and a fourth place finish out of nine teams at Tuesday's junior varsity meet in Ellinwood. Meanwhile the Panther girls jv finished sixth with 38 points.

BUHLER- Grant Harris swept through the first round of singles play as the Great Bend tennis team posted a second place finish at Tuesday's quadrangular in Buehler. Buhler won the quad with 27 team points, while the Panthers finished with 12.
