Larned sweeps tennis tournament

LARNED - Larned's varsity tennis team swept 12 matches to dominate the Larned Tournament with 30 points.

Great Bend pitcher Hunter Marcum was close to perfection in a dominating 8-0 and 11-0 sweep of Liberal High School. She struck out 18 batters and retired 21 of 22 batters in a no-hit opener. Kaeleah Chaloupek reached on a hit batter.

Panther sprinter doubles her fun

Great Bend junior sprinter LaCora Bryant posted career-best times and earned a pair of victories in the 100 (12.39) and 200 (25.99) meters in Tuesday's Great Bend Track Invitational. It marked the first time Bryant has sprinted the 200 meters under 26 seconds.

GBHS baseball sweeps Buffs

GARDEN CITY - Great Bend combined solid pitching and defense for a stunning doubleheader sweep of Garden City 3-1 and 4-3. The defending Western Athletic Conference champions rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the nightcap.

Ellinwood Middle School wins six tennis divisions

Ellinwood Middle School won six divisions with 2-0 records in a round-robin tournament against the Great Bend Middle School tennis team Monday. Four singles players and two doubles teams finished with 2-0 records.

Great Bend Middle School girls soccer ties 5-5

The Great Bend Middle School girls soccer team traded goals with Dodge City Comanche Middle School until the final buzzer ended in a 5-5 tie. Rain had delayed the start of the soccer season.

Panther team places runner-up

Great Bend's No. 2 doubles team of Trent Stueder and Omar Talamentes placed runner-up with a 6-1 record at the Great Bend Tennis Tournament at Veterans Park. Stueder and Talamentes lost 8-4 to Garden City's Dan Chacon and Brian Carrera for first place.

MCPHERSON - Great Bend's Kelby Titus rallied from a rough start for a 6-over-76 that placed fourth at Monday's McPherson Tournament at Turkey Creek Golf Course.

Larned's Colton Massey ties for first

LAKE BARTON – Larned's Colton Massey earned co-medalist honors with an even-par 70 at the Hoisington Tournament at Lake Barton Golf Course. Massey tied with Emmit Owens of WaKeeney-Trego. Ellsworth placed first (334) followed by Larned (335) and Trego (335).

Panther soccer loses 2-1 to Emporia

EMPORIA - Emporia's high-scoring Kadin Stinson scored the tying and winning goals for a 2-1 overtime soccer victory over Great Bend High School Monday. Stinson has scored seven goals, including three game-winners.

CONWAY SPRINGS - Larned's Max Easley (148), Kolby Keith (172) and De'Shaun Clark (285) earned first place and the Indians were runner-up to Conway Springs April 1 in the Class 3A state powerlifting chamnpionship.
