VALLEY CENTER - Competing in a season-opening wrestling meet in the Valley Center Duals, Great Bend High School captured second in the Gold Pool with a 4-1 record, good for third place overall out of eight teams.
ELLINWOOD - In spite of a 12-0 run that gave the Ellinwood High School girls' basketball team a two-point lead in the third quarter, the Lady Eagles couldn't keep the pressure going in the final eight minutes..
HAYS - Carrie Minton's debut as Great Bend High School's girls' head basketball coach found the Lady Panthers going toe-to-toe with De Soto in a first-round game late Thursday afternoon at the Hays City Shoot-Out.
Hunter Middleton broke two school records in Tuesday's 10-0 and 7-1 sweeping of visiting Thomas More Prep. The Panther senior recorded 12 strike outs in the first game and retired one more for good measure after an inning's work in game two to break the single season strikeout record with 137 for the season. Middleton also collected her 15th win of 2015 breaking another school record.
Great Bend girls soccer fell 10-0 to visiting Manhattan Monday at Cavanaugh Fields. The loss drops Great Bend to 3-10-1 on the season. The Panthers are in Salina this evening for non conference action againt Salina South.
NEWTON- For the third year in his Great Bend career, Grant Harris will be making a trip to the state tennis tournament. For several weeks the Panther senior has been battling tendonitis but it never proved to be an issue at Monday's regional tournament in Newton.
