HUTCHINSON - In a historic week for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division-I basketball ranks, Barton Community College tried to pull a comeback for the ages on Wednesday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
HUTCHINSON - It didn't really look like the nation's No. 1 women's community college basketball team versus an unranked opponent on Wednesday night.
Hutchinson Community College's men's and women's basketball teams are undefeated and top-ranked, thus making for double-daunting tasks for Barton as it travels to the Hutchinson Sports Arena tonight.
It's going to be a tough mountain to climb.
LINCOLN, Neb. - Just five days removed from the holiday break, the Barton Community College track and field teams opened their indoor season this past weekend at the Holiday Inn Invitational, which was held on the campus of the University of Nebraska.

HESSTON- There is little doubt the Barton Community College men's tennis team plays in one, if not the toughest, regions in the NJCAA. Two of the top four teams in the nation are in the region.
LAWRENCE- It was a battle all day long. The second Jayhawk Conference men's golf tournament was a close contest the entire way at Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence.
It was a season full of honors for Ahmad Walker. The Barton Community College sophomore basketball star capped his post season honors by being named NJCAA second team All American.
HESSTON- In the final tune-up match for the Region VI Championships, the Barton Community College women's tennis team did not have the success it would have liked. In fact it was another day of fighting injuries for the Cougars as they lost to nationally ranked Cowley College 8-1.
SALINA- A perfect conference season is in the books. The Barton Community College women's golf team made it 6-for-6 in winning Jayhawk Conference tournaments this season. The final leg was completed with another easy win at the Salina Municipal Golf Course Monday and Tuesday.
WICHITA- It isn't often superstar Lydia Mato doesn't cross the finish line first. But it did happen Friday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita. Mato took second in the 5000m at a very competitive KT Woodman Classic on the campus of Wichita State University.
WICHITA – It was one of the largest meets of the season by sheer numbers. Several events had more than 70 entrants. The event included several junior college teams from Kansas as well as the Midwest.
It was just the weekend the Barton Community College baseball team was in need of.
STERLING- The weather seemed to be the only thing that was going to stop the Barton Community College softball team Saturday – and it did.
Lydia Mato has hit the jackpot...and shattered it! She met her fortune not panning for gold in a river bed or some lost tunnel in a mountainside but on a well laid path of pressurized rubber and Poly-Resin binders.
EL DORADO- The Barton Community College softball team headed to the Jayhawk West leader on a roll. Barton had won five of six conference games. But the hot streak came to a hault at Butler.
It was a good start to an important series.
It was perhaps her best week yet. So it was little surprise that Erica Harper won what is becoming a weekly honor for her - the Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week award.
DODGE CITY- Taking care of business when it mattered most. That is what the Barton Community College softball team did Wednesday afternoon in a sweep of Dodge City.
