This past weekend marked the next-to-last meet for the Barton women's track team before they embark on the NJCAA Championships. Off the heels of a big meet last weekend, the Cougars moved up to No. 5 in the nation.
Sprints have always been a strength of the Barton track program. The Barton men showed just how strong that portion of the team is again this year with dominating efforts at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita this past weekend.
With two meets to play, gaining a share of the Jayhawk Conference championship looked like a tall task for the Barton women's golf team. After winning just one of the first four meets, Barton needed to sweep the final two.
It came at a good time. With the weekends filled with Jayhawk West series, the Barton baseball team has traditionally scheduled a junior varsity for a midweek break. A single 9-inning game for a relief from the grueling 4-game grind against conference foes.
Earning praise in the heptathlon for the Barton women's track team takes some doing. After all, Olympic silver medalist Hyleas Fountain is among the alumni for the Cougars. And she doesn't even have the school record.
