BBB: Earth Day 2018 comes with a reminder about plastics

April 22 will bring an Earth Day with a special purpose this year. The theme is "End plastic pollution." Recent news stories about gigantic, floating masses of plastic waste in our oceans have served to spotlight the worsening problem of plastic pollution. Consumers have a large role to play in the effort to better control the amount of plastics that go into our landfills. Many products are made from it and/or come packaged in it.

Central Care Cancer Center hosts barbecue to benefit Relay For Life

The public is invited to attend the fourth annual "Pulled Pork & Chicken Feed," from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on April 17 at Central Care Cancer Center, formerly known as Heartland Cancer Center. The barbecue will be held in the Central Care parking lot, located at 204 Cleveland St., Great Bend. All proceeds from the barbecue benefit Relay for Life of Barton County. The cost is $5 per person and carry-out is available.

HAYS - HaysMed recently welcomed Dr. Srinivas S. Samavedi, Urologist to the medical staff. Dr. Samavedi completed medical school at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, India. He completed fellowships in uro-oncology at the University of Miami; robotic urology at Ohio State University and Global Robotic Institute; transplant surgery in Columbus, Ohio and advanced robotic urology at the Global Robotic Institute. Areas of focus include general urology, endo-urology, oncology (prostatectomy, cystectomy, neobladder) and robotic surgery (prostatectomy, nephrectomy).
