Walters retires from Kansas Highway Patrol

Colonel Ernest E. Garcia, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Captain Richard "John" Walters is retired from the Patrol after serving over 33 years with the agency. Walters' retirement was effective June 11.

Teacher of the Year

On May 13, Dickson Oklahoma Public Schools named Jeff Parsons the 2011-2012 "Teacher of the Year" for the district. Parsons was nominated for this award by his fellow teachers. He has taught 3rd and 5th grade at Dickson Upper Elementary for the last four years. Parsons is a 1990 graduate of Great Bend High School.

Great Bend Public Library receives a facelift

The Great Bend Beautification Committee recently completed their latest project at the Great Bend Public Library. The upper lawn level on the east side of the library has been beautifully landscaped to include three new bronze statues.

Daniel Stevens joins Sunflower Electric Power Corporation

Fuller Brush Company announces new manufacturing/design engineer

The Fuller Brush Company is pleased to announce that Martin Brack has joined the company as Manufacturing/Design Engineer, effective June 1. Mr. Brack is originally from Albert. He completed high school at Otis-Bison. After completing a Bachelors degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from Kansas State University, Martin was employed as an Application Engineer in Valley, Neb., where his duties included design and development of tools, parts and systems used in irrigation. Martin will be providing much needed assistance and support to Fuller's engineering department.

Rosewood Memorial Garden Honors 14 departed clients

In a place of springtime tranquility, 14 names are etched in marble tablets, which stand along the winding walkway a few feet above shrubs, plants and a palette full of colorful flowers lightly brushed by fluttering butterflies. It's hard to imagine now that the serene landscape was just an ordinary yard a year ago at Rosewood Services Inc. A two year process to plan, fundraise, and then build, the Rosewood Memorial Garden was cultivated with care to honor those Rosewood clients who have passed away over the past 13 years during the company's operation.

Schartz promoted to Vice President at Farmers Bank & Trust

Lindsay Schartz has been promoted to Vice President/Deposit Compliance Officer. Lindsay has been employed by Farmers Bank & Trust for 14 years in the capacities of Teller, New Accounts Representative, Supervisor, Branch Manager, Electronic Banking Officer and Assistant Operations/Cashier. Lindsay's new duties will include responsibilities for Bank Secrecy Act, security and deposit compliance. "Lindsay's background is a great fit for compliance and internal audit. Our board relies heavily on this important function of the Bank," according to President Gene Dikeman.

The 2011 Kansas Department of Corrections Employees and Volunteer of the Year were announced by Governor Sam Brownback and KDOC Secretary Ray Roberts today during special ceremonies at the Kansas Statehouse. Employees were nominated for each of the awards by their peers and the winners were chosen by a special panel from the KDOC Central Office.
