HaysMed offers new direct anterior approach hip replacement surgery

Dr. Sukchan Lee, Orthopedic Surgeon at HaysMed performed the first direct anterior approach (DAA) hip replacement surgery at HaysMed in June. The surgery offers patients the potential for a shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery time. Dr. Lee is one of the only physicians in Western Kansas who performs this type of surgery but he will be joined by fellow Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Gulraiz Cheema who will begin offering the procedure this fall.

Kansas Corporation Commission announces weatherization grant

The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) announced today it will provide $350,000 in grant funds to the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) to provide weatherization assistance to low income Kansans. KHRC's Weatherization Assistance Program has helped 576 households so far this year and has a waiting list of others requesting assistance. The KCC grant, funded by the Department of Energy through the federal State Energy Program, will help alleviate the weatherization waiting list.

According to Consumer Reports Magazine, $350 million is lost to telephone fraud each year by Americans. As in many scams, the elderly are often targeted. It's no longer just a landline problem either: three quarters of telemarketing scams in the U.S. are perpetrated over wireless devices.
