When Tom Bauer, M.D., gestured toward the window of his new office at Great Bend Internists (GBI), he said: "I was born right over there - right across the street." He was referring to the original site of St. Rose Hospital on the Dominican Sisters convent grounds.

Barton Bookstore closes for inventory

The Barton Community College Bookstore will be closed for inventory this Tuesday through Thursday. The bookstore will resume its regular summer hours beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 5.

Walters retires from Kansas Highway Patrol

Colonel Ernest E. Garcia, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Captain Richard "John" Walters is retired from the Patrol after serving over 33 years with the agency. Walters' retirement was effective June 11.

Teacher of the Year

On May 13, Dickson Oklahoma Public Schools named Jeff Parsons the 2011-2012 "Teacher of the Year" for the district. Parsons was nominated for this award by his fellow teachers. He has taught 3rd and 5th grade at Dickson Upper Elementary for the last four years. Parsons is a 1990 graduate of Great Bend High School.

Great Bend Public Library receives a facelift

The Great Bend Beautification Committee recently completed their latest project at the Great Bend Public Library. The upper lawn level on the east side of the library has been beautifully landscaped to include three new bronze statues.

The floor space may be smaller, but the merchandise is almost the same at the Gifts from the Heart gift shop at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center. It also is still conveniently located on the first floor.

Heart Association declares GBRH Emergent Stroke Ready

Great Bend Regional Hospital has been documented as able to adequately care for a stroke patient brought to the facility, the American Heart Association and the Kansas State Stroke Task Force announced last Wednesday.
