ALCO announces June sales, promotion

ABILENE - ALCO Stores Inc. announced that sales from continuing operations, excluding fuel, decreased 2.9 percent to $46.8 million for the fiscal five-week period ended July 1, compared to $48.1 million during the same period of the prior year. On a same-store basis, excluding fuel, sales decreased 5.9 percent from a year earlier.

New Rosewood team raises nearly $1,500 in ‘Relay For Life’ effort

A team of Rosewood Services Inc. employees raised nearly $1,500 during this summer's Barton County Relay For Life event, which was held June 8 at the Barton County courthouse square in downtown Great Bend. It was the first year that Rosewood formed a team, which was cause for special recognition by Barton County Relay For Life. Organization representatives Kandi Wolf and Mariann Shook presented a certificate of appreciation to Heart Strong team members on June 28, fittingly at the Rosewood Memorial Garden.

Duckwall-ALCO approves name change to ALCO Stores

ABILENE - Duckwall-ALCO Stores Inc. (Nasdaq:DUCK), which specializes in providing products for everyday life in small-town America, announced at its June 27 annual meeting of shareholders that the company's name will officially change to ALCO Stores Inc. An amendment to the Articles of Incorporation was approved at the meeting. ALCO Stores also plans to change its ticker symbol on NASDAQ to "ALCS." Both the name change and the change in ticker symbol will be effective as of July 6.

Kirmer retires
