Jordaan Foundation announces 2018 Jordaan Scholars

PAWNEE COUNTY - For 47 years, the Jordaan Scholarships have been awarded to students graduating from the high schools located only in Pawnee County. Each scholarship provides $12,000, payable $3,000 per year during the student's undergraduate or graduate college or university career for four years, upon the condition that scholastic eligibility continues to be maintained.

Baleigh Fry a state winner in 2018 Financial Essay Scholarship Contest

TOPEKA - A high school senior from Great Bend was among the five winners in the 2018 Kansas Financial Scholars Essay Contest announced Monday. Baleigh Fry, Great Bend High School, was the fifth-place winner in the contest, which is sponsored by the Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner, the Kansas Insurance Department and the Office of the State Bank Commissioner. She received a $500 tuition scholarship to her choice of a Kansas school of higher education for the 2018-2019 school year.

Kays offer Hat Day

Great Bend High School Kays held a hat drive on Friday, April 27. Students donated a dollar and were allowed to wear a hat in school all day. The funds raised will go to Heifer International, a global nonprofit working to eradicate poverty and hunger through sustainable, values-based holistic community development.

GBMS brings home Lego trophy

Great Bend Middle School sent four teams to Fort Hays State University's 13th annual Western Kansas Lego Robotics competition on April 16. Great Bend was one of 25 western Kansas school districts competing. The school captured 1st place overall as a team and brought home the Lego traveling trophy.
