Tabor College Dean's list
Tabor College has announced that 180 students have been named to the Dean's List for their accomplishments for the Fall '10 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List a student must fit into one of three categories based on his or her GPA: Highest Honors, 4.00-3.85; High Honors, 3.849-3.70; and Honors, 3.699-3.50.
WKMA 2010-2011 Scholarships awarded

Tyler Axman graduates from KSU College of Agriculture
Tyler Axman, a December 2010 College of Agriculture graduate in Food Science and Industry from Kansas State University, earned Cum Laude Honors. Tyler was one of only eight December 2010 College of Agriculture graduates to receive this honor. The earn Cum Laude Honors, a student must complete all undergraduate work with a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher. BCC announces endowed scholarship recipients
Barton Community College has announced recipients of 2010-11 endowed scholarships based on academic excellence. These scholarships are awarded by the Barton Community College Foundation.
KSU Scholarships
More than 8,500 Kansas State University students have been awarded academic scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year. In all, K-State students have received more than $16 million in scholarships.
Sterling College Debate Team
The Sterling College Debate and Forensics team returned from the Cameron University Tournament held in Lawton, Okla., December 3-4 with first place in overall debate team sweeps.
FHSU Distinguished Service Award
Luci Williams, a transcript analyst, and Dixie Balman, financial aid counselor, were named the 2010 winners of the President's Distinguished Service Award today at Fort Hays State University's 23rd annual Holiday Party and Awards Ceremony, held in the Memorial Union.

More than 1,300 students candidates for graduation from KSU
Kansas State University has more than 1,300 candidates for graduation in December. Commencement ceremonies were Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11, on the K-State campuses in Manhattan and Salina.

Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship awarded
The Dunlap family recently awarded the fourth scholarship from the Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship Fund. Dunlap's family created a scholarship fund for students wishing to enter the fields of education and/or sports medicine. As a graduate of Great Bend High School, Barton Community College, and Southwestern College, Dunlap was tirelessly dedicated to his students and athletes. Senator Moran now accepting 2013 Service Academy applications
U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) is accepting applications for nominations to the United States Service Academies. The academies include the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Those selected will enter the academies in June 2014.
Local students named Governor’s Scholar
At the invitation of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, Ethan Kaufman, Russell High School, Taylor Fry, Great Bend High School and Conner Birzer, Ellinwood High School, were selected to attend the 30th Annual Governor's Scholars Awards Program on May 5, in Topeka.
GBMS Above and Beyond winners
Great Bend Middle School announces the April and May Above and Beyond Winners. Each of these students was nominated by their teachers because they have gone above and beyond the call of duty in becoming a good citizen of GBMS. The students received a certificate and a pizza and pop luncheon with the school Administrators.
Sunflower Bank Donates More Than $6,900 to Great Bend and Ellinwood Schools and Students
Wrapping up the 12th year of the annual ABC Program, Sunflower Bank contributed $6,910 to schools and students in the Great Bend and Ellinwood area. Since the inception of the ABC Program in 2001, Sunflower has contributed $52,038 to schools and students in the Great Bend and Ellinwood area.
Dean’s Honor Roll at NCK Tech announced
Commencement ceremonies for NCK Tech were held in Beloit on May 10th. Students achieving a 3.5 – 4.0 GPA earned Dean's Honor Roll academic honors during the ceremony. Area students recognized are: Carpentry-Cabinetmaking: John Kubick, Ellsworth and Richard Tice, Great Bend; Advanced Computer Information Technology: Nicholas Syx – Russell; Electrical Technology: Toby J Hubka– Wilson.

BCC Foundation honors Mary Cohen with Distinguished Service Award
The Barton Community College Foundation honored Dr. Mary Davidson Cohen with the 2013 Distinguished Service Award during Barton's 43rd commencement on Friday. Cohen was unable to attend, but Barton Foundation Director Darnell Holopirek accepted the award on her behalf. Kans for Kids announces scholarship recipients
Kans for Kids announced its 2013 scholarship recipients. Any child who has received assistance from Kans for Kids is eligible to receive two scholarships from the organization upon graduation from high school and each year following while they pursue higher education.
Honor student
Barton Community College student Terra Hull, shown with President Dr. Carl Heilman, is inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society on Thursday evening in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel at Barton Community College. Alpha Sigma Lambda is primarily for non-traditional students. Its aim is to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. Barton had 36 new members in 2013.
First recipients of new Information Security certificate at BCC look to bright future
Barton Community College students Orlando Hernandez and Jesse Siefkes are ecstatic. Both have taken a huge step in their educational and professional lives by earning Barton's very first certificates in Information Systems Security along with four other students.
Panther Bands Spring Concert recognize seniors, parents, accomplishments
Panther Band members will present their Spring Concert at 7 p.m. on May 13 in the GBHS Gym. The band seniors and their parents will be recognized, as well as all of the band student's achievements during the year.
Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science prepares to honor 3rd graduating class
The 27 members of the 2013 class of the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science will walk across the stage at Commencement beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, in the Fort Hays Ballroom on the second floor of the Memorial Union.
