Barton Community College Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Darnell Holopirek and Hoisington USD 431 Superintendent Bill Lowry show the Sandzén reproductions that the district recently received to take the place of the original pieces sold at auction last summer. These high-quality photo reproductions take the place of the originals, sold for $170,000. Artist Birger Sandzén painted the original watercolors and donated them to the school. Soroptimist Club awards $1,000 in scholarships to local women

The Soroptimist Club of Great Bend recently awarded two local women with $500 scholarships in recognition of their efforts to better their lives and give back to the community. "There are two different types of scholarships that Soroptimists award each year," said club President Jennie Gordy. "In addition to the many charitable activities our club takes part in each year, this is one of the ways we support local women."

Great Bend Middle School announces the January Above and Beyond Awards for January. These students are nominated by their teacher by going above and beyond the call of duty in becoming a good citizen of GBMS.
