Washburn Univ. Fall Dean’s Honor Roll

Washburn University has released the names of students who were named to the fall semester Dean's Honor Roll. To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 graded semester credit hours and attain a semester grade point average between 3.4 and 3.99.

Area schools share Healthy Habits For Life Grants from BCBS

Thousands of children attending schools in 66 Kansas counties will have access to at-school programs during 2014 aimed at improving their health and fostering positive habits. The programs will be funded through 160 Healthy Habits for Life grants totaling $149,650.16 that were recently distributed to school nurses, teachers and administrators by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation.

BCC to offer automotive technology night class

Barton Community College will offer a night class version of its Introduction to Automotive Technology class in 2014. The class will meet from 6-9 p.m. every Thursday from Jan. 16 through May 15.

Distinguished Youth of Texas Scholarship and Recognition

Chickasaw/Pawnee sixth grade student Carrie Johnson of Teague, Texas, was selected as a candidate in the Distinguished Youth of Texas Scholarship and Recognition program that was held on Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. During the weekend competition, two students were chosen to receive a $1,000 cash scholarship and the right to serve as a State Program Titleholder for one year. In all, $5,000 in awards and prizes were presented to various participants.

Students represent GBHS at Math Relays

Eighteen students from Great Bend High school participated in the 35th annual Fort Hays State University Math Relays. The Relays were held on Nov. 14 on the FHSU campus. In attendance were 674 students, representing fifty-one area schools. The Great Bend squad placed sixth overall in the 4A – 6A category. The Panthers were represented by freshmen Cal Marshal and Dawson Clark; sophomores Olivia Blackwell, Kaylan Lagerman, Heather Schneider, Earving Morales, and Rane Libeer; juniors Natasha Bieker, Alex Morgan, Carter Sheffield, and Francesco Ruggeri; and seniors Greg Burley, Colton Lagerman, Trey Newkirk, Alec Witt, Logan Zecha, Jun Rei Chen, and Aaron ...

First-ever Startup Weekend at FHSU produces 3 entrepreneurial business plans

The College of Business and Entrepreneurship hosted the first-ever Startup Weekend in western Kansas on November 15-17 in McCartney Hall on the Fort Hays State University campus. Thirty-one participants, including FHSU students and alumni, pitched business ideas and formed teams to transform those ideas into functioning businesses.
