The University of Kansas Department of Political Science honored its top students at its annual recognition ceremony April 29.
Katie Lear of Kansas City has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society and was honored during a recent induction ceremony at University of Missouri-Kansas City. Katie is a 2010 graduate of Kansas State University. She is the daughter of Dan and Alicia Lear of Great Bend.
A total of 4,045 students were named to the 2011 spring honor rolls at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, including 1,411 students who received all "A" grades and were named to the President's Honor Roll.

Each year the Great Bend High School Class of 1971 gives a scholarship to honor a deceased classmate. For the 2011 year, this scholarship is in memory of classmate Mona Youtsey. Class of '71 representative JP Postlethwaite said the final decision for this year's recipient was a tie, and two scholarships were awarded. The names of more than 4,800 candidates for degrees at the University of Kansas this spring - representing 99 Kansas counties, 43 other states and 59 other countries - have been announced by the University Registrar.

API offered two special scholarships this year to students majoring in either Geology or Engineering. API is trying to retain some students to graduate and work in the industry. The winners of these two scholarships were Anthony Cannata and Jonathan Schotte. These recipients were not required for one of their parents to be employed in the oil or gas industry.
