Golden Key International Honour Society Inducts Great Bend-native Katie Lear

Katie Lear of Kansas City has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society and was honored during a recent induction ceremony at University of Missouri-Kansas City. Katie is a 2010 graduate of Kansas State University. She is the daughter of Dan and Alicia Lear of Great Bend.

Class of '71 awards two scholarships

Each year the Great Bend High School Class of 1971 gives a scholarship to honor a deceased classmate. For the 2011 year, this scholarship is in memory of classmate Mona Youtsey. Class of '71 representative JP Postlethwaite said the final decision for this year's recipient was a tie, and two scholarships were awarded. API scholarships

API offered two special scholarships this year to students majoring in either Geology or Engineering. API is trying to retain some students to graduate and work in the industry. The winners of these two scholarships were Anthony Cannata and Jonathan Schotte. These recipients were not required for one of their parents to be employed in the oil or gas industry.

Hoisington native graduates from Ivy League School

Dakota Meyers, Hoisington High Class of 2009, graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in the field of Economics during the university's 312th commencement ceremony, which took place last week.
