The University of Kansas Department of Political Science honored its top students at its annual recognition ceremony April 29.
Golden Key International Honour Society Inducts Great Bend-native Katie Lear
Katie Lear of Kansas City has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society and was honored during a recent induction ceremony at University of Missouri-Kansas City. Katie is a 2010 graduate of Kansas State University. She is the daughter of Dan and Alicia Lear of Great Bend.
Oklahoma State University releases 2011 Spring honor rolls
A total of 4,045 students were named to the 2011 spring honor rolls at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, including 1,411 students who received all "A" grades and were named to the President's Honor Roll.

Class of '71 awards two scholarships
Each year the Great Bend High School Class of 1971 gives a scholarship to honor a deceased classmate. For the 2011 year, this scholarship is in memory of classmate Mona Youtsey. Class of '71 representative JP Postlethwaite said the final decision for this year's recipient was a tie, and two scholarships were awarded. KU announces more than 4,800 spring 2011 candidates for degrees
The names of more than 4,800 candidates for degrees at the University of Kansas this spring - representing 99 Kansas counties, 43 other states and 59 other countries - have been announced by the University Registrar.
Local student named Governor’s Scholar

Forty-one students were inducted as members of the Ichabod Chapter of the National Senior Honor Society of Mortar Board at Washburn University. API scholarships
API offered two special scholarships this year to students majoring in either Geology or Engineering. API is trying to retain some students to graduate and work in the industry. The winners of these two scholarships were Anthony Cannata and Jonathan Schotte. These recipients were not required for one of their parents to be employed in the oil or gas industry.
Barton Community College students named to President’s and Dean’s List for Spring 2013
Barton Community College has named 234 students to the President's List for the spring 2013 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

Hoisington native graduates from Ivy League School
Dakota Meyers, Hoisington High Class of 2009, graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in the field of Economics during the university's 312th commencement ceremony, which took place last week. During the daylong ceremony, degrees were conferred to graduates of Yale College and all of the university's graduate schools, except for Yale Law School. Taylor Fry, daughter of Jeff and Angie Fry was recently awarded the prestigious P.E.O. Star Scholarship. Fry was recommended by Chapter HR of Great Bend. The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is based on excellence in leadership, activities, community service, academics and potential for future success.
