The National FFA Foundation awarded $133,000 in scholarships to members across the state of Kansas. One hundred sixteen members were recognized for their scholarship awards during the third session of the 86th Kansas FFA Convention on May 29.

The Dunlap family recently awarded the fifth scholarship from the Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship Fund. Ryan's family created a scholarship fund for students wishing to enter the fields of education and/or sports medicine. As a graduate of Great Bend High School, Barton Community College, and Southwestern College, Ryan was tirelessly dedicated to his students and athletes. NCK Tech conferred certificates and degrees to 326 students during the May, 2014 Commencement ceremonies. Graduation exercises were held on the Beloit campus on May 16 and on the Hays campus on May 17. Veteran's Honorary Associates Degree. 204 students earned certificates and 122 students were awarded Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degrees.
Washburn University has released the names of students who were named to the spring semester Dean's Honor Roll. To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 graded semester credit hours and attain a semester grade point average between 3.4 and 3.99.
Colton Lagerman is the 2014 Ryan Joseph Bealer Memorial Scholarship recipient. Lagerman is a 2014 graduate of Great Bend High School and will be attending the University of Kansas this fall, majoring in Chemical Engineering. With friends, he enjoys building projects such as a large trebuchet and gas powered bicycles, having cookouts, and playing the occasional video game. Lagerman excels academically and participated in National Honors Society, Student Council, and the Future Business Leaders of America.
Logan Evers of Great Bend High School was recently presented the school's highest agricultural honor, the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by the Monsanto Company. He received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience. Logan's significant experiences and accomplishments have included maintaining a 3.98 GPA and Vice-president of the GBHS FFA Chapter. He also received a proficiency award in vegetable production.
Ashley Parrott of La Crosse and Jessica Kraisinger of Otis, both students at Emporia State University, were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Taylor Ann Latham of Great Bend has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars for her commitment to the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service. NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing. Taylor recently completed her freshman year on the Dean's Honor Roll with a 4.0 GPA at Kansas State University.
