Colton Churchill, an FFA member of Ellinwood HS-FFA, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by Marmie Ford, Inc. and Ford Motor Company through the National FFA Scholarship program. Colton is the son of Chad and Shelly Churchill of Ellinwood.
Pawnee Height's Annual Academic Fair was held on April 23rd. It was entitled "It's Interactive!" because almost all the displays were something to play with try, or watch. Students from K-12 had displays throughout the school. Artwork and activities, included a huge cereal box house in the second grade room and a chance to learn how to write like an Egyptian in the sixth grade room.
More than 1,100 students are expected to participate in Pittsburg State University's spring commencement exercises on May 9 and 10. Commencement exercises will be held in the Garfield Weede physical education building on the PSU campus. The College of Education and the College of Technology's ceremonies will take place Friday evening. The College of Arts and Sciences' departments of Art, Communication and History, Philosophy and Social Sciences will take place Saturday morning.
Sunflower Bank in Great Bend and Ellinwood recently wrapped up the Community Ambassador Program. The program gives high school seniors the opportunity to hone skills, experience life after high school, network with local leaders and explore unique elements of their hometown.
Washburn University student Randi McAfee, of Great Bend, will travel to England this summer to participate in a faculty-led program examining the historical impact of the English Reformation through visits to London, Gainsborough, Oxford and Cambridge.
"Cheers!," a collection of ear-catching, Latin-influenced tunes, will feature "Lucid Dreams," a composition by Nathan Froebe, Columbus graduate student, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Fort Hays State University's Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.
