Baleigh Fry a state winner in 2018 Financial Essay Scholarship Contest

TOPEKA - A high school senior from Great Bend was among the five winners in the 2018 Kansas Financial Scholars Essay Contest announced Monday. Baleigh Fry, Great Bend High School, was the fifth-place winner in the contest, which is sponsored by the Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner, the Kansas Insurance Department and the Office of the State Bank Commissioner. She received a $500 tuition scholarship to her choice of a Kansas school of higher education for the 2018-2019 school year.

Music program recognizes students for excellence at annual Honors Recital and Awards Ceremony

MANHATTAN - Several Kansas State University students were named winners or received awards at the recent Music Program Honors Recital and Awards Ceremony. The music program is part of the university's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

HAYS – Students from central Kansas were recognized at a recent Student Recognition Program in Great Bend for the scholarships they have been awarded from Fort Hays State University for the 2018-19 academic year.

Kays offer Hat Day

Great Bend High School Kays held a hat drive on Friday, April 27. Students donated a dollar and were allowed to wear a hat in school all day. The funds raised will go to Heifer International, a global nonprofit working to eradicate poverty and hunger through sustainable, values-based holistic community development.

GBMS brings home Lego trophy

Great Bend Middle School sent four teams to Fort Hays State University's 13th annual Western Kansas Lego Robotics competition on April 16. Great Bend was one of 25 western Kansas school districts competing. The school captured 1st place overall as a team and brought home the Lego traveling trophy.

Hoisington Middle School welcomes author

Throughout this school year the Hoisington Middle School has been participating in an all-school book read for the first time. The book chosen was "A Home in America: A Volga German Story," by Eunice Boeve from Phillipsburg.

Mulch receives Cliff Dipman Internship Award

MANHATTAN - Kenneth "Cole" Mulch, junior in Golf Course Management at K-State, received the KGCSA Cliff Dipman Internship Award for 2018. He will be interning this summer at Rolling Meadows Golf Court under Nic Youngers.

Kansas winners of KidWind qualify for national competition

MANHATTAN – Seventeen teams from eight schools competed in the ultimate wind energy learning experience Friday, April 6, at Kansas State University. Sterling High School's team placed second and has qualified to advance to a national competition. The top two teams in both the high school and middle school categories qualified to compete in the national KidWind Challenge at the American Wind Energy Association's Windpower 2018 conference in Chicago May 8-10.
