On Jan. 27 the Great Bend Middle School Jazz Ensemble participated in the annual Hutchinson Community College 2012 Winter Jazz Clinic. Guest artists from Denver, Colo. and Louisville, Kent. were in attendance as jazz clinicians for the high school and middle school jazz ensembles. Three GBMS Jazz Ensemble members received awards For Outstanding Musicianship. They are: Tanya Sanchez-Alto Sax, Blake Stanley-Trumpet and Thomas Bobbitt-Alto Sax.
Great Bend High School 2012 Pink Out will be held on Feb. 24 at the Great Bend vs Hays Basketball game. T-shirts can be ordered by Feb. 13 at GBHS Room 211 or by calling Stacy at 793-1521. The cost is $10. All proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Nearly 1,300 students completed degree requirements from Kansas State University this fall.
For World Wetlands Day on Feb. 2, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center held a coloring contest for second graders throughout the county.
Cloud County Community College has announced the names of students on the Fall 2011 Academic Honor Roll. To be named to the honor roll, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours of college coursework and achieve a minimum 3.6 grade point average.

Great Bend Middle School announces students who received the Above and Beyond Award for the second nine weeks. The students are nominated by their teachers for going above and beyond the call of duty in becoming a good citizen of GBMS. The student receives a certificate, and a pizza and pop luncheon with the administrators.
Barton Community College has named 267 students to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester.
Pratt Community College announces its fall 2011 Presidents Honor Roll. For students to be on the Presidents Honor Roll they must be a full time student, taking at least 12 hours and must have a 4.0 GPA.
The Golden Belt Community Foundation has announced scholarships available to students in the Golden Belt area.
Olivia Lowry, a Junior at Hoisington High School, has been selected to serve as Area 6 KAY President. Olivia's selection took place at the Nov. 7, Regional Conference hosted by the Goddard High School KAY Club.
Newman University officials have announced the students on the Dean's List for the fall semester of 2011. To qualify for this achievement, a student must complete 12 credit hours and have attained a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
Barton Community College has named 203 students to the President's List for the fall 2011 semester.
Barton Community College President Dr. Carl Heilman joined trustees Mike Johnson, Brett Middleton and Mike Minton on a two-day trip to Topeka to visit with Kansas legislators on Jan. 11 and 12.
Great Bend Middle School announces that Kathy Hafner has been selected for the employee of the month. She was nominated for being a strong leader with great people skills. When she is asked to do something she gets it done to the best of her ability. She is a favorite of many parents, and is remembered far after Middle School.

Sarah Jean Neeland, Great Bend, a 2012 graduate of Great Bend High School, has earned a place on the fall 2014 Deans Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University. She is a senior majoring in elementary education. The Deans Honor Roll includes undergraduate students only. To be eligible, students must have enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60 for the semester.
More than 3,700 Kansas State University students have earned semester honors for their academic performance in the fall 2014 semester.
