The Golden Belt Community Foundation recently awarded a scholarship from the Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship Fund. Ryan's family created a scholarship fund for students wishing to enter the fields of education and/or sports medicine. Jessica Leiker and Abbie Schuster, from Great Bend, have begun their hands-on, clinical training at the KU School of Medicine-Wichita before receiving medical doctor degrees. For the last two years, Leiker and Schuster studied biological sciences in Kansas City.
Last Friday, Jan. 23, Hoisington Middle School students recognized National Handwriting Day by competing in a handwriting contest. Teachers Karisa Kaiser and Shari Blase collected samples from students, and also awarded a prize to the student that could guess the highest number of teacher handwriting samples.

Sarah Jean Neeland, Great Bend, a 2012 graduate of Great Bend High School, has earned a place on the fall 2014 Deans Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University. She is a senior majoring in elementary education. The Deans Honor Roll includes undergraduate students only. To be eligible, students must have enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60 for the semester.
