Area students have accepted scholarships to Fort Hays State University for the 2014-2015 school year.

Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Dunlap family recently awarded the fifth scholarship from the Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship Fund. Ryan's family created a scholarship fund for students wishing to enter the fields of education and/or sports medicine. As a graduate of Great Bend High School, Barton Community College, and Southwestern College, Ryan was tirelessly dedicated to his students and athletes. His lifework was as an athletic trainer and physical education teacher. He took pride in the camaraderie of team sports and watching his student's succeed. NCK Tech Commencement

NCK Tech conferred certificates and degrees to 326 students during the May, 2014 Commencement ceremonies. Graduation exercises were held on the Beloit campus on May 16 and on the Hays campus on May 17. Veteran's Honorary Associates Degree. 204 students earned certificates and 122 students were awarded Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degrees.

Chance Kurtz was named the 2014 Mulvane High School senior class salutatorian. Kurtz attended school in Great Bend from second through eighth grade.

Washburn University announces Spring 2014 Dean’s Honor Roll

Washburn University has released the names of students who were named to the spring semester Dean's Honor Roll. To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 graded semester credit hours and attain a semester grade point average between 3.4 and 3.99.

Ryan Joseph Bealer Memorial Scholarship Fund

Colton Lagerman is the 2014 Ryan Joseph Bealer Memorial Scholarship recipient. Lagerman is a 2014 graduate of Great Bend High School and will be attending the University of Kansas this fall, majoring in Chemical Engineering. With friends, he enjoys building projects such as a large trebuchet and gas powered bicycles, having cookouts, and playing the occasional video game. Lagerman excels academically and participated in National Honors Society, Student Council, and the Future Business Leaders of America.

Evers receives agricultural honor

Logan Evers of Great Bend High School was recently presented the school's highest agricultural honor, the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by the Monsanto Company. He received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience. Logan's significant experiences and accomplishments have included maintaining a 3.98 GPA and Vice-president of the GBHS FFA Chapter. He also received a proficiency award in vegetable production.

BCC honors graduates at Fort Riley

FORT RILEY - Donning big smiles and holding hands, Dionne and Derrick Sullivan were at the front of the room, about to make a big commitment, but they weren't getting married. They already tied the knot years ago. This time, the walk down the aisle was accompanied by "Pomp and Circumstance," and their commitment was to continued education and self-improvement. The Sullivans were graduating on the same day with associate degrees in general studies from Barton Community College at Fort Riley.
