University of Kansas grad students attend workshop in Alaska

A Great Bend High School Alum, Alexis Reed, along with 17 other students and faculty from four National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship programs recently met in Juneau, Ak., for a workshop titled Understanding Rapid Environmental and Social Change in the Arctic: Bridging Traditional Knowledge and Interdisciplinary Science Across IGERTs.

FBLA State Competition

Twenty-two students traveled to the state FBLA competition on March 31 and April 1 in Topeka. The event was held at the Capitol Plaza hotel. Students competed in a variety of business events. Barton announces Honor Scholarship recipients

Barton Community College has announced recipients of Honor Scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year. To earn an Honor Scholarship at Barton, the student must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 to 3.49. These awards are administered by Barton's Financial Aid Office. Sterling College Debate Team captures State Title at the State Collegiate Championship Tournament

Continuing their record setting season, the Sterling College Debate team successfully hosted the State Collegiate Championship Tournament on Feb. 18-19, and captured yet another state title. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Sterling Debate team has captured either the individual or team title in parliamentary debate. In addition, Emily Graham of Hutchinson, and Nolan Chaney of South Hutchinson, were named the top two speakers in the tournament.
