Sisters announce annual bazaar

God's rules are simple

The teachings in my church have been from Matthew's Gospel during this long season of Pentecost; and while the messages are couched in Parables, I have to admit they are fairly direct. When taken as a whole Matthew is telling us what Jesus was trying to convey in His life and teaching; that the leaders of the church of the time were saying one thing and doing another; and the good church (temple) going folk were acting the same way. They were more interested in how religious they appeared than how they responded to what God wanted.

Annual fall dinner

Skip-it to Give-it campaign helping Haiti

A local effort this month has people in Barton County giving up little luxuries they can live without, and tucking away the money they would have spent so it can go to help people in Haiti still recovering from the devastating effects of the 2010 earthquake that leveled most of the buildings on the island.

Correction: No soup supper planned

An item on last Friday's church page in the Great Bend Tribune announced a soup supper and bake sale that is not actually scheduled, on a day that does not exist. The event was reported as taking place Friday, Oct. 18, at the First United Methodist Church. However, last Friday was Oct. 13 and the church is not planning a soup supper and bake sale, a spokesman said.

Trinity Lutheran Church donates quilts

The pews in the sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church are draped with 59 multicolored quilts created over the past year by the Trinity quilters. They'll be shipped to the Lutheran World Relief Headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn., and then will be sent all over the world. One quilt was donated to Camp Toma Shinga for their annual quilt auction. The Trinity quilters also made and sent 88 school bags and 35 personal care kits.
