Presbyterian Women hold annual Pecan Sale

During the month of September Presbyterian Women are selling fresh Schermer pecans from Georgia. In addition to the 16 oz. packages of pecan halves and medium pieces, there are three 12 oz. specialty packages: chocolate covered pecans, cinnamon glazed pecans, and new this year, are the chocolate caramel clusters. The specialty pecans come packaged in decorative bags all ready for gift giving.

"Dresses for Africa"

When Nita Mohr read a Tribune article about the Ellinwood Quilting Club making 50 "Little Dresses for Africa," she was inspired. Nita and twin sister, Rita Roblyer, regular members of Great Bend Central Baptist Church, Friday Arts and Crafts group, decided that their group could make 200 dresses. Trinity UMC holds Coat Drive

Trinity United Methodist Church held a Back to School Block Party on Aug. 28. More than 200 hot dogs were served. The community was especially generous in its response to the coat drive. Coats are being accepted at the church (Broadway and Patton) from 9 a.m.-noon through the end of the week.

The First Congregational United Church of Christ is having a gourmet coney/hotdog fundraiser for Kaito Richter from 5 to 7 pm. on Aug. 31. Kaito, 2 1/2 years old, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ewing's sarcoma, in his leg last November.

Documentary sheds light on gray areas
