Soon volunteers from around Great Bend will gather to kick off the collection season for Samaritan's Purse. Empty shoeboxes will be packed throughout the fall - with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items - and collected at several area locations Nov. 13-20.

Trinity Lutheran Church donates quilts

The pews in the sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church are draped with 59 multicolored quilts created over the past year by the Trinity quilters. They'll be shipped to the Lutheran World Relief Headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn., and then will be sent all over the world. One quilt was donated to Camp Toma Shinga for their annual quilt auction. The Trinity quilters also made and sent 88 school bags and 35 personal care kits.

Local churches combine VBS for missions project

During the week of July 24-28 at First United Methodist Church, several churches united to bring 85 children in Great Bend closer to God and help our community. First Congregational United Church of Christ, Trinity United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church and King United Methodist Church, along with 32 volunteers, hosted "Hero Central" showing children how to discover their strength in God.

First Baptist of Ellinwood to host Awana program
