Haskell and JoLee Cooley are among the singers scheduled to appear during the eighth annual Fall Gospel Sings Concert, Nov. 2-3 at Barton Community College's Fine Arts Auditorium. The public is invited to come to any of the free programs going on from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, and 1-9 p.m. Sunday.

Singing legend Frankie Valens and his wife Phyllis will appear at First Southern Baptist Church, 3301 19th St., Great Bend, at 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 4. There will be no charge for the program, but a freewill offering will be taken.

CLAY CENTER – I was visiting with a young woman whom I had lost contact with for several years. As we caught up about her family, work and faith she said, "I'm a pagan." It surprised me. I never had anyone tell me that before. After our conversation I asked myself, "What does it mean when she calls herself a pagan?"
Catholics will be praying the Holy Rosary in front of the Barton County courthouse this Saturday at noon, said Ruth McFrederick from Holy Family Parish. Believers of all faiths are invited to come and pray for the nation.
Members of the First Congregational United Church of Christ pack newborn baby kits, which will be distributed by the Barton County Health Department. Members prepared the kits this past Sunday as a community service project.

When the Civil War was coming on the horizon, God prepared the nation in advance. The first thing he did was to move some men in New York to pray for revival in the land. This became the Second Great Awakening which stretched from the late 1790s through the 1840s. The nation experienced millions of conversions for Jesus and a tremendous growth in church attendance.

A new version of the motion picture "Left Behind" seeks to appeal to a broader audience than the original. But the producers at Stoney Lake Entertainment are counting on retaining the Christian audience that carried the first version.

There is a raging debate around the issue of illegal aliens, especially unaccompanied children. These aliens have been entering America through Mexico. Some say that it is our responsibility to take care of them. Others say we should send them back. Some say that our borders should be open, others say not.
St. Mark Lutheran Church, 21st & Jackson, Great Bend, will host a Walking Taco Supper from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, in the church fellowship hall. The menu includes build-your-own tacos, dessert and drink. Admission is by freewill offering. Proceeds will go to the Education Assistance Fund to assist children of the church who are attending Christian-based schools.
Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway Ave., will hold a prayer service at 5 p.m. Sunday for the International Day of Prayer for Peace.
• Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis will have a special celebration honoring Pastor Bruce Adamson on the 35th anniversary of his ordination. The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, with special music provided by Prairie Timbre +1. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Susan Candea, the Bishop's Associate with the ELCA Synod.
United Methodists in Nebraska and Kansas launched its public school partnership with an education caravan in July at three Kansas locations designed to bring attention to the importance of public schools. Three more are scheduled in Nebraska on Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 2. United Methodists in the new Great Plains Conference (Nebraska and Kansas) intend to increase collaborative efforts between United Methodist congregations, schools and community partners to support local schools.
CLAFLIN - The Immaculate Conception Altar Society of Claflin is having a Roast Beef Dinner and Fun Night on Sunday, Sept. 21. Roast Beef and all the trimmings will be served from 5-7 p.m. at the Parish Center in Claflin.
