During the month of September Presbyterian Women are selling fresh Schermer pecans from Georgia. In addition to the 16 oz. packages of pecan halves and medium pieces, there are three 12 oz. specialty packages: chocolate covered pecans, cinnamon glazed pecans, and new this year, are the chocolate caramel clusters. The specialty pecans come packaged in decorative bags all ready for gift giving.
St. Michael Catholic Parish of La Crosse will celebrate its centennial on Sept.18. The parish extends an invitation and welcome to all to join in this celebration.
When Nita Mohr read a Tribune article about the Ellinwood Quilting Club making 50 "Little Dresses for Africa," she was inspired. Nita and twin sister, Rita Roblyer, regular members of Great Bend Central Baptist Church, Friday Arts and Crafts group, decided that their group could make 200 dresses. Other church members and friends enthusiastically joined the effort to bring hope to girls, "changing lives one little dress at a time." They started transforming gently used pillowcases into simple sundresses. After exhausting their pillowcase supply, the ladies continued making dresses with donated fabric and trims.
Trinity United Methodist Church held a Back to School Block Party on Aug. 28. More than 200 hot dogs were served. The community was especially generous in its response to the coat drive. Coats are being accepted at the church (Broadway and Patton) from 9 a.m.-noon through the end of the week.
Trinity United Methodist Church, 5700 Broadway, will hold a free hotdog dinner with fun and games from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia will hold a homemade ice cream social from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 11. Desserts will be served with the ice cream and a variety of toppings. Donations will be used for community and Christmas donations and will be matched by Thrivent. The public is welcome.
The First Congregational United Church of Christ is having a gourmet coney/hotdog fundraiser for Kaito Richter from 5 to 7 pm. on Aug. 31. Kaito, 2 1/2 years old, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ewing's sarcoma, in his leg last November.
St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center used its recent monthly employee-appreciation event to celebrate the Feast Days of St. Dominic and St. Rose of Lima. The special days are Aug. 8 and Aug. 23, respectively.
Saint Ignatius Catholic Church in Kanopolis will hold their annual "FIESTA" on Sept. 3. Starting at 11 a.m.. Mexican food, American food, and homemade pie will be for sale. Games for the children and bingo will follow the 4 p.m. Mass.

The Endowment Committee of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend awarded scholarships to 13 members of the congregation who will be attending college this school year. Awarded $500 scholarships were freshmen Darien Blackwell, New Mexico Junior College and Nina Burton, Barton Community College. Awarded $300 scholarships were upperclassmen Lyndsee Johnson, Matt Krug and Katelyn Kaiser, Kansas State University, Cameron Lampe, University of Kansas, Elizabeth Simmons, Wichita State University, Jenna Clarke, Barton Community College, Kelly Curtis, Sterling College and Amber Dowson, Michelle Mull, Matthew Koch and Amanda VanSkike, Fort Hays State University.

St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend will host their annual "Roast Beef Dinner" on Sunday, March 1st in the Church Fellowship Hall, 2101 Jackson. The menu includes roast beef, potatoes, green beans, roll, dessert and drink. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carry-out will be available.
