Musical programs this weekend at Trinity Lutheran

The annual Christmas music events at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2701 24th St., will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, and at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services this Sunday.

Music of Christmas

"The Music of Christmas", a concert of traditional sacred hymns celebrating the birth of Christ, will be presented at 4 p.m. on Sunday. This will be the 15th annual Christmas program by musicians Jenny Allford and Brad Shirer. Duets will feature the Sanctuary grand piano and the 1926 Austin pipe organ of First United Methodist church. The church, located on the corner of Forest and Stone Streets in downtown Great Bend, is handicapped accessible. This free concert and the reception following are open to the public.

Wichita Priest John Balthasar Brungardt appointed Sixth Bishop of Dodge City Diocese

Pope Benedict XVI announced today that he has accepted the resignation of Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore and appointed Reverend John B. Brungardt of Wichita as the sixth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City.

Great Bend Seventh Day Adventist program

The students of the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School will present "Portraits of Love" at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Church, one mile west of 10th and Patton Road. This play will provide various ways that show Jesus's love. The public is invited to come and enjoy this spiritual take on the reason for the season of Christmas.

TWA sponsors Fifth Quarter tonight

The Great Bend Youth Workers Alliance is sponsoring a free Fifth Quarter event tonight, for all Great Bend middle school and high school students. Fifth Quarter starts at 9 p.m. and continues until midnight at the First Assembly of God church, 601 South Patton Road. According to spokesman Ashley Dowgwillo, there will be inflatable games, video games, basketball, free food and a concert by the band Echelon.

First Presbyterian to host Larned Community Service

Great Bend Catholic youth will hold their annual St. Nicholas Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, at the St. Rose Church Auditorium, Baker and Broadway. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 3 through 10 and children

Rush County Community Choir Christmas Cantata

Rush County Community Choir will present a Christmas Cantata, "Night of the Father's Love" on Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center and at 4:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert, four miles south, one mile west and 1/2 mile south of Albert.

The Streets of Bethlehem

The Streets of Bethlehem, a journey through the past to visit the birthplace of Christ, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 5, 11 and 12 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 205 S. County Road, in Holyrood. Tours leave every 10 to 15 minutes. Admission is free with entertainment while you wait, live animals and refreshments. See the town where Jesus was born and experience what the shopkeepers and townspeople saw and heard that night.

Ecumenical Thanksgiving services announced at St. Mark, Trinity Lutheran

Pastors at two Great Bend churches encourage Christians to attend a Thanksgiving service of their choice next week. Both St. Mark Lutheran, 2101 Jackson, and Trinity Lutheran, 2701 24th St., announced special services. During these services they also will accept offerings of money and/or canned goods that will be given to the food banks of Hoisington, Rush County (in La Crosse) and Great Bend.

Peace Church 25th Anniversary

Peace Church will celebrate their 125th Anniversary at the 10:30 a.m. worship on Nov. 21, 429 N.E. 140th Street, 5 miles north of Hudson. A meal will be served at noon. Former pastors have been invited. Trinity Congregation and all past members and friends of Peace Church are invited. Any photos or other items of interest are welcome.

Stafford UMW Annual Bazaar

November 13 isn't just the opening day of pheasant season this year. It's also the day for people to hunt for old favorites and new treats at the annual Stafford United Methodist Women's annual bazaar. While the date has changed, the items shoppers have come to expect will continue to be part of the event, which will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church basement.
