Churches offer 'Workshop of Wonders' VBS

First United Methodist, Trinity United Methodist, King United Methodist, First Congregational United Church of Christ, and Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church invite all children to gear up at "Workshop of Wonders: Imagine and Build with God." This vacation Bible will be held from at First United Methodist Church, 2123 Forest Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Monday to Friday, starting July 14.

Coaches volunteer for sports VBS at Foundry Methodist

This year's vacation Bible school at Foundry Methodist Church in Great Bend is a sports camp with lessons on baseball or softball, basketball, and rifle safety and target shooting. The class is available for children 8-13 years old and is free of charge.

​Grace Lutheran to celebrate anniversary of Pastor Dumer

Grace Lutheran Church in Lyons will host the 50th anniversary of the ordination and installation of the Rev. Lester H. Dumer on Sunday, June 29. Dumer was pastor at Grace Lutheran Church from June 28, 1964, until 1972. He will be preaching the sermon at the 4:30 p.m. service on June 29.

Connie Ginest, Cristy Suchy and Bev Miller have completed the course work for the SpiritLife program and graduated on April 26 at the Heartland Center for Spirituality in Great Bend. SpiritLife is a two-year spiritual formation class designed to help participants discover a new attentiveness to the meaning of grace, allowing them to live intentionally in spirit-centered ways.

'Life is Beautiful' showing Friday

The 1997 motion picture, "Life is Beautiful," will be shown at 6:15 p.m. Friday, March 27, as part of the Heartland Center for Spirituality's latest series of "Movies with a Message." The movie begins at 6:15 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, 3600 Broadway Ave. A freewill offering will be accepted to offset the cost of refreshments.

Fish fry is Friday

HOISINGTON - Everyone is invited to an "All You Can Eat" fish fry from 5:30-7:30 p.m. tonight at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall. Members will be serving Alaskan pollock, coleslaw, scalloped potatoes and drinks. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-11 and children under 4 eat for free. All proceeds support area charities.

A new video about Jesus for the Easter season will be released Friday by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Elders from the Great Bend ward said the video is about 2-3 minutes long and can be found on the website www.HeLives.mormom.org.

Lenten Luncheon: Central Baptist

The final Lenten luncheon in the local series will be at noon on Wednesday, April 1 at Central Baptist Church, 3301 Lakin Ave. The host pastor is Dr. Joan Harrington, and the speaker will be Adam Wutka, pastor at St. Mark Lutheran Church. A meal is served at noon (not earlier) and the meeting ends at 1 p.m. A freewill offering is suggested to defray the expenses of the host congregation.

Catholic Social Service will sponsor its 14th annual charity wine tasting event on Friday, April 17 at the Club at Stone Ridge in Great Bend. Tickets are $50, or $350 for a table of eight.

The Jehovah's Witness New World Translation says He was "a god" (John 1:1). Notice the small "g." Rabbi Shraga Simmons says that, according to Judaism, "Jews to not accept Jesus as the messiah."
