Kids turn recycled objects into art

Young people from Barton County turned used objects into works of art for the Recycling Rocks!!! contest at the Barton County Arts Center, located at 1401 Main in Great Bend. The entries can be seen there weekday afternoons, through the end of the month.

Emmy-nominated speaker will talk about bullying

Nationally acclaimed youth speaker Mark Brown will present an anti-bullying talk to fifth and sixth graders in Great Bend on Tuesday. Brown is scheduled to speak at 1:45 p.m. at Holy Family School. Fifth and sixth graders from Lincoln Elementary School will also attend the program at HFS, said Kim Griffith with Great American Opportunities.

Johnson seeks election as judge

DeleteSteve Johnson, a Great Bend attorney, announced he is seeking election as 20th Judicial District, Division II, Judge. He is running for the position recently vacated by retiring Judge Hannelore Kitts. The 20th Judicial District includes, Barton, Russell, Ellsworth, Rice and Stafford counties. Johnson will be running on the Republican ticket.

Motorcycle riders help Habitat for Humanity

For over nine months, Habitat for Humanity has been working on the construction of a three bedroom home at 1906 Hubbard in Great Bend. With only a small number of workdays left before the home is turned over to its new owners, the help of some local motorcycle riders couldn't have been more greatly appreciated, said Habitat's board president Rachel Mawhirter.
