Dallas Brass arriving Thursday for band clinic and concert

The Golden Belt Community Concert Association will host the Dallas Brass, one of America's foremost musical ensembles, on Thursday. The group will conduct a high school band clinic in the afternoon and perform a concert that evening.

The top prize in the upcoming Sunflower Diversified Services poker tournament will depend on the number of people who play. If more than 250 players sign up, first prize is $1,500.

Selling like hotcakes

A Chris Cakes crew member flips flapjacks at the recent Sunflower Diversified Services fundraiser at the Prince of Peace Parish Center. A pancake-and-sausage dinner was served to 567 people and Sunflower raised $1,417. All proceeds go to central Kansans with special needs.

Community Concert Association to present classical pianist Eric Himy

Eric Himy is known as a brilliant classical pianist with the wit of a true entertainer. He will perform the second concert of the Golden Belt Community Concert Association's 2010-11 season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium, Lakin and Stone. The concert is available to concert association members. Full-time students will be admitted to the concert for a $5 donation at the door. The auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m.

The Great Bend Municipal Airport Air Festival & Fly-in concludes Sunday, Sept. 19, with activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Concessions will be available. Many airplanes arrived at the airport this weekend, and are on display. Watch for remote-control aircraft demonstrations as well.

Barton offers motorcycle safety training

Barton Community College will offer the Beginner Rider Motorcycle Safety Course Sept. 24-26 in Great Bend. The course is being taught by Motorcycle Safety Foundation certified instructors Dan Myers and Jeff Young, who have taught more than 1,500 students in more than a decade of instruction.
