Chris Cakes to deliver entertainment with Sunflower pancake dinner

The annual Sunflower Diversified Services pancake dinner promises to offer good food and entertainment for everyone who attends, said Connie Oetken, director of development. The event is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Prince of Peace Parish Center, 4100 Broadway.

Great Bend artist exhibits ‘magical, mystical’ creations

The magical, mystical art of Lisa Winter Hayes, Great Bend, will be featured at the Barton County Arts Center, 1401 Main, Great Bend, through the month of September. An opening reception will be held Sunday, Sept. 4, from 2:-4 p.m. The public is invited to attend and meet the artist.

Activity for the Ages set for September 1

Mark your calendar for Thursday, Sept. 1 and join Donna Krug, Barton County Extension Agent at 9 a.m. at the Great Bend Senior Center. The event is titled, "Activity for the Ages" and things will kick off with blood sugar screening as well as blood pressure checks. Healthy refreshments will be served and participants will have an opportunity to visit booths of agencies that serve our senior populations. The event is free and open to everyone.

U.S. Fish And Wildlife Service to hold meetings on Wind Energy Corridor, seeks public input

From Aug. 30 through Sept. 1, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will hold a series of public scoping meetings in Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma as part of the agency's efforts to evaluate the impacts of, and alternatives to, the proposed issuance of an Endangered Species Act permit that would authorize specified levels of take of certain species. A group of wind energy companies have requested this Incidental Take Permit and are developing the Great Plains Wind Energy Habitat Conservation Plan to meet permit issuance requirements. Barton County Historical Society event

Barton County Historical Society will provide an event from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Members of Vintage Wheels Car Club, D and B Motors, and other friends of the society will bring classic vehicles from the past to display on the grounds. The Vintage Wheels club was founded in May, 1975. Some of the charter members are still active in the club. The Golden Belt Carvers will demonstrate, and the Golden Belt Express, our little train, will be running for young visitors.
