Hoisington grad part of American Royal Grand Champion team

KANSAS CITY, Kans. - Dennis and Bethany McAllister are the duo behind 913 Barbecue, Grand Champions of Kansas City's American Royal invitational barbecue contest. This was their third year of competition, and they beat out 568 teams representing 38 states and 11 foreign countries for the title.

STAR SPANGLED HOLIDAY

Great Bend residents and visitors who converged on Main Street and the Court House Square Saturday night to watch the Home for the Holidays parade couldn't have picked a more pleasant evening. It was a marked difference from Shop Local Saturday 2015, when the parade was cancelled due to icy conditions. This year a patriotic parade theme, "Star Spangled Holiday," honored veterans both retired and serving. Great Bend's Boy Scouts showed their holiday spirit, paddling their way along Main Street. Ellinwood’s Star of Hope carries on humanitarian aid in Haiti

ELLINWOOD - Since Hurricane Matthew made a direct hit on the island of Haiti Oct. 4, Ellinwood based Star of Hope, a non-profit international aid organization, has sent over $280,000 worth of relief, completing nine interventions in devastated communities in that country.

A resolution to approve the proposed extension district, combining the Barton County KSU Extension Council with the Ellis County Extension Council, is on the agenda for the next Barton County Commission meeting. Community Concert offers Musical Monday fundraiser

The Golden Belt Community Concert Association will host Musical Monday for Giving Tuesday. Musical Monday is a come-and-go event set for 7-9 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Best Western Angus Inn Courtyard giving supporters of the concert association an opportunity to donate to the GBCCA Endowment. These financial gifts will help continue the association's heritage of offering quality, diverse musical performances to residents of Barton County and the surrounding area.
