Ellinwood City Council approves housing study

The Ellinwood City Council welcomed the opportunity to hear from two different sources vying to bring new housing to the city. Vicky Dayton, Executive Director of Housing Opportunities Inc., and Justin Joiner of Joiner Construction both indicated their desire to secure funding through the state's Moderate Income Housing Program (MIH) in order to bring additional moderate income housing to the city. Therefore, both made a case in favor of the city conducting a market study for housing.

USD 428 considers bus policy change

The Great Bend USD 428 school board had its first reading Tuesday of next year's handbooks for students, teachers, athletics and activities. The Athletic Handbook and the Activity Handbook include some new guidelines for school bus sponsor duties.

USD 431 parents concerned about bullying

Despite years of classroom instruction devoted to curbing bullying among school-aged children, problems persist, leaving some parents wondering what can be done to protect their children on the bus and and at school. Monday night, four Hoisington parents brought their concerns to the USD 431 Board of Education. Complaints ranged from the need to block students from inappropriate internet usage, sexting, and social and physical bullying on school buses.

City hires firm for on-call engineering services

Habitat breaks ground in Hoisington

Members of the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce, Hoisington City Council, and Barton County Habitat for Humanity gathered at 322 E. 6th Street in Hoisington Thursday morning to break ground on a project that will make the dreams of one as yet undetermined Barton County family come true. This is not the first such build in the city.

Stretch of East Barton County Road to be closed Saturday

East Barton County road between SE 20 Ave and SE 35 Ave (1/2 mile East of Kiowa Kitchen) will be closed from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday. Terracon Consulting Engineers of Wichita will be conducting geology work on Bridge 200 relating to the installation of a geosynthetic reinforced soil integrated bridge system.
