Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan Meeting to be held April 25

The Kansas Division of Emergency Management will be hosting a Regional Mitigation Plan Kickoff Meeting at 1 p.m. on April 25, in the Stafford County Annex Building, 201 E. 3rd St., St. John. Entities, including school districts, municipalities, special districts, and certain non-profits, within Barton County have been invited to attend the meeting. Interested individuals are also invited to attend the meeting to learn more about the plan and the planning process.

CPI Barton County Endowment accepting ideas for projects

The CPI Barton County Endowment was established in 2009 through the Golden Belt Community Foundation when CUNA Mutual Group acquired CPI Qualified Plan Consultants, Inc. (CPI) and made a generous donation establishing the corporate grantmaking fund. Since then the fund has grown and CPI employees have begun reviewing projects that will benefit Barton County. Earlier this year CUNA Mutual Group announced the rebranding and newly targeted focus for CPI, which included a new name: CPI is now known as CUNA Mutual Retirement Solutions.

Foster Grandparents celebrate 17 years of service

The 17th Annual FHSU Foster Grandparent Program Recognition Celebration was held on Thursday, April 10, at the FHSU Memorial Union. Approximately 90 people were in attendance including State Representatives Sue Boldra and Travis Couture-Lovelady, Rep. for District 110 in the Kansas House; Margaret Gabelmann and state Silver Hair Legislature representatives from the area as well as Ellis Mayor Lyle Johnston.

Full Circle on Aging program scheduled for April 25

CPES Library receives grant

Central Plains Elementary School library in Holyrood has been awarded a Kansas Book Festival Grant for $750. On March 31, Kansas First Lady Mary Brownback announced the winners of the 2014 Kansas Book Festival Grants during a news conference at the Statehouse. Eight libraries throughout the state received book grant money. CPES library will be using the grant to purchase nonfiction books for the lower elementary grades that will help satisfy Common Core standards.
