Commission to hold Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes the swearing in of newly elected county officials, the appointing of a commission chairman and chairman pro tem and the purchase of a vehicle for the Barton County Sheriff's Office.

Touched by Cancer plans Monday meet and greet

The Touched by Cancer support group has announced its schedule for the new year. The group meets from 4-5 p.m. on the second Monday of most months in the conference room at the Heartland Cancer Center, 204 Cleveland St., Great Bend.

Alzheimer’s support group to meet on Monday

The Barton County Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Trinity Methodist Church, located at 5700 Broadway Ave. in Great Bend. The program will be "Caring for and Communicating with the Alzheimer Patient," with facilitator Brenda Friess.

Sheriff to speak at League of Women Voters meeting

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir is scheduled to speak at the League of Women Voters of Great Bend meeting, set for noon Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Classic Inn restaurant, 1 S. Patton Road. Lunch will be from the menu or buffet.

Greek mythology

Great Bend's Lincoln School sixth graders in Karen Eckberg's class pose in costumes and/or with props depicting gods and goddesses. Eckberg said that students researched the mythological characters for their Greek unit in social studies. They typed a report, created a Google Slide presentation and shared the information they learned. "Our students went above and beyond in preparing their props," Eckberg said. "I am very proud of their efforts!"

Eight Quilts of Valor awarded

Studio potter Brenda Lichman coming to Shafer Gallery

Studio potter Brenda Lichman of Wichita will have work on display at Barton Community College's Shafer Art Gallery from Jan. 13 through Feb. 11. Lichman's ceramics will be available for purchase during the exhibit. She will close the exhibit with a free workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 11 hosted by the gallery.
