Supreme Court Special Session April 13 at Fort Hays State University

The Kansas Supreme Court will hear oral arguments from 6:30 to about 8:30 p.m. on Monday in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center located in Sheridan Hall on the Fort Hays State University campus at 600 Park Street in Hays. The court will greet the public in an informal reception following oral arguments. Commission to hold Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes a National Public Safety Telecommunications Week proclamation, the Golden Belt Veterans Memorial and the 2015 paint striping program.

Ellinwood Prom

Ellinwood High School Prom 2015 will be held at Ellinwood High School on April 11th. Prom decorations may be viewed by the public from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Promenade will begin at 6 p.m. on the east side of the high school. The prom theme for this year will be Candy Land. The dance will end at 11 p.m. Transportation to After Prom will be on the north side of the high school.

Golden Belt Community Foundation announces Spring Grant Recipients

The end of another very competitive grant cycle has come, bringing with it 28 applications and over $115,000 in grant application requests. Golden Belt Community Foundation recently completed the March competitive grant cycle and awarded 13 charitable organizations a combined total of $28,860. Awards were granted to programs and projects within Barton, Pawnee, Rush and Stafford Counties.

​Get ‘The Skinny on Complete Streets’ at Stop ‘N Learn

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host "The Skinny On Complete Streets," a free Stop 'N Learn program, at noon Wednesday, April 8, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. "Complete streets" are context sensitive and allow for the movement of people as well as automobiles. Representatives from Be Well Barton County will talk about accessible walking, traffic calming measures and how trails encourage economic growth.

Church rummage sale Saturday

Great Bend's Presbyterian Women will hold their annual Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11, in the church Fellowship Hall at 24th and Washington. Funds raised by the rummage sale are contributed by Presbyterian Women to local charities and service organizations as well as to national and world-wide missions. A wide-variety of minimally priced useful items in good condition will be for sale.
