PAWS class helps furry friends

The PAWS enrichment class at Great Bend Middle School took on a whole other meaning as students of Teri Rous paused recently to create toys for some friends with four paws.

Each year, the Christmas season in Great Bend shines brightly with its Trail of Lights holiday display. A drive along the trail might start at the south entrance to Brit Spaugh Park, taking viewers past animated displays and a light show set to music in front of the zoo. Then proceed to Veterans Memorial Park for "The 12 Days of Christmas." See the Christmas Nativity at K-96 & 10th Street, then head south to the Historical Village lights.

KDWPT nabs hunter for hunting, drug and gun violations

ELLSWORTH COUNTY – A man was taken into custody in Ellsworth County Thursday evening for several hunting, firearms and drug violations, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reported.

Commission to hold Tuesday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes a Claflin Neighborhood Revitalization Plan interlocal agreement, remodeling the courthouse fourth floor for the County Attorney's Office, a simplified online communications system and the county's League of Kansas Municipalities membership dues.

Holiday travel to reach record levels

In the American Automobile Association's West North Central Region, which includes Kansas, more than 8.2 million people will be travelling for the holidays, the AAA reported. This is a record setting number for the region and the ninth consecutive year of an increase.
