MANHATTAN - K-State professor and Great Bend native Bryan Pinkall and the Kansas City Chorale received a Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance and Best Engineered Album, Classical in the 2016 Grammy Awards presented Monday night. The awards ceremony was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
A defiant Unified School District 428 Superintendent Brad Reed admonished the media Monday afternoon for its coverage of sexual battery allegations involving members of the Great Bend High School boys swim team while assuring Great Bend residents the school system is addressing the matter with the utmost vigor.
More than 20 eighth grade students from St. John toured Great Bend Regional Hospital the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 29, to learn about careers in the health-care industry. They got to see first-hand how EKGs are performed before learning about laboratory testing and getting to scrub in for the operating room.
The two 2015 inductees into the Great Bend High School Hall of Fame will be recognized at a luncheon and special reception on Friday, Feb. 26. Honored will be longtime GBHS teacher and tennis coach Shannon Schartz and high-powered attorney Ty Cobb.

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes appointments to the Cow Creek Watershed Working Group, the landfill's permit to accept waste mass liquids and a departmental update.
Tickets for the Great Bend High School Hall of Fame luncheon are now on sale in the Activities Office at the high school. The luncheon is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the Club at Stone Ridge.
TOPEKA - Six students from Barton Community College in the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society were recognized Thursday for being selected as members of the PTK All-Kansas Academic Team during an award luncheon at the Ramada Inn in Topeka. Prior to the luncheon, inductees toured the state capital building with Barton administrators and visited with state legislators.
On Feb. 10, the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence hosted its annual training and Advocacy Day to increase awareness about the issues of sexual and domestic violence in Kansas. This is KCSDV's 13th annual Safe Homes, Safe Streets event.
