​Library board to discuss safe child policy

The safe child policy that was tabled at the July meeting is back on the agenda for Monday's Great Bend Public Library Board of Directors meeting. The board will meet at 4:45 p.m. in the Dane G. Hansen Media Center, on the lower level of the library. New business on the agenda includes an executive session to discuss personnel changes.

​Budget on school board agenda

The Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education will approve a 2015-2016 budget for publication when it meets at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the District Education Center, 201 S. Patton Road. The final budget will be approved at a special meeting on Aug. 24.

Zoo News: ​City seeking zookeeper, greeter

The City of Great Bend website has two job openings listed at the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo - for a zookeeper and for a part-time helper at the main building, the Raptor Center. The positions were held by Zookeeper Stacie Hayes, who is moving to Texas, and Gabby Hildalgo, a greeter at the Raptor Center, who plans to become a stay-at-home mom.

​Great Bend woman recovering after dog attack

One week after being attacked by the family dog, a Great Bend woman has undergone two surgeries and is recovering at a Wichita hospital. Shelly LeRoy expects to spend the next month or longer at Via Christi - St. Francis Hospital, according to her daughter, Rachel LeRoy.
