Huelskamp to visit Hoisington Tuesday

HOISINGTON – Congressman Tim Huelskamp,R-Kansas, will host a town-hall meeting at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Hoisington Public Library, 169 S. Walnut in Hoisington. He will also be visiting Phillips, Smith and Osborne counties.

Spring landscaping topic of Wednesday program

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host a free Stop 'N Learn session titled "Preparing for a Spring Landscape" from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th. Cowboy shooting demo returns to 16th Annual Santa Fe Trail Tired Iron Show

Fall and harvest go hand-in-hand. Next weekend, visitors to Larned will have the chance to see how harvest traditions have shaped this area over the past 150 years. The Santa Fe Trail Center Museum and Research Library will host the 16th Annual Santa Fe Trail Tired Iron Show on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. High Tunnel Tour scheduled for Tuesday

Since 2015, three applicants for the NRCS High Tunnel program have built and put into service tunnels in Barton and Rush counties. Following their first full growing seasons, owners of the tunnels have agreed to open their tunnels for a high tunnel tour, presented by the USDA, NRCS, Barton, Pawnee and Rush County Conservation Districts and K-State Research and Extension. Duck hunters celebrated at KWEC Hunter Appreciation Breakfast

Duck hunting season begins on Oct. 8 for the Low Plains Early Zone. Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area offers premier waterfowl hunting opportunities and the traditions that go with those hunts. In what has become a new tradition over the last four years, duck hunters are invited to stop by the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, located at the southeast corner of Cheyenne Bottoms along K-156 Highway, after their hunt from 8 to 11 a.m .on Oct. 8 for a free Hunter Appreciation Breakfast. Veterans Service Representative visit

A Veterans Service Representative from the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs will be at the Great Bend Kansas Works Center at 1025 Main Street from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 13, to assist veterans and their families in applying for VA benefits. Vietnam veterans are encouraged to inquire and see if their health condition is linked to agent orange. FEMA denies appeal for federal disaster declaration
