Kadin White benefit to be held

ELLINWOOD - A benefit fundraiser poker tournament will be held for 11-year-old Kadin White, who is suffering from acute lympoblastic leukemia, beginning at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Ellinwood American Legion, 117 N. Santa Fe. White also has Down Syndrome and has an infection. He is in Wesley Medial Center in Wichita.

Golden Belt Community Foundation accepting Grant Applications for March 1

The Golden Belt Community Foundation invites proposals for its upcoming competitive grant cycle. Applications now are being accepted from qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and public institutions, including schools, government entities, and clubs and civic/community organizations in Barton, Pawnee, Rush, and Stafford counties. Funds are available primarily for the health and well-being of youth; however, limited funds are available in many other categories.

Barton County’s Second Graders celebrate World Wetlands Day

The Kansas Wetlands Education Center announces the winners of the 2014 World Wetlands Day Coloring Contest. World Wetlands Day is celebrated each year on Feb. 2, and is organized by Ramsar, the organization that has designated Cheyenne Bottoms as a "Wetland of International Importance." The theme for 2014's World Wetlands Day was "Wetlands & Agriculture: Partners for Growth." The coloring sheet, featuring ducks and geese, was colored by 2nd grade students from 11 schools in Barton County. The best coloring sheet from each classroom was chosen; each winner received a certificate, a Top 20 Birds of Cheyenne Bottoms identification card ...

BCC to offer free ceramics workshop by Freemans

Barton Community College's Shafer Art Gallery and the St. Justa Pottery Guild, a Barton student club, will host a ceramic workshop presented by professional artists Mark and Bambi Freeman from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 in the Barton ceramics studio in the technical building, room T-151.

Russell County drug charges lead to indictment

RUSSELL – Antonio Vindiola, 41, Tuscon, Ariz., has been indicted by a federal grand on drug-related charges, Wichita-based United States Attorney Barry Grissom announced Thursday afternoon. Vindiola is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The crimes are alleged to have occurred Jan. 29, 2014, in Russell County.

Glassblowing artist featured at Deines

Celebrate birds at KWEC
