Supreme Court to conduct special evening session Oct. 4, at Hutchinson Community College

The Kansas Supreme Court will conduct a special evening session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Hutchinson Community College, as part of its ongoing outreach to familiarize Kansans with the high court, its work, and the overall role of the Kansas judiciary.

City Council to discuss water system Monday

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the City Office, 1209 Williams. The agenda includes a bond issue for water system improvements and refinancing existing debt; a Nex-Tech video service agreement; one-day cereal malt beverage license for Aug. 27; request for permission to bore across Lischesky Ditch for an electric service line; appointment of Public Works Director; budget and tax revenue ordinances related to the 2017 budget; and renewal of the Great Bend Boom facility use agreement.

Chiller repairs on County Commission agenda

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes approval of a list of added/abated/escaped/refunded taxes; openings on the Community Development Advisory Board and the Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging; and chiller repairs.

Foundation’s Big Benefit Auction ticket sales end Monday

Tickets for the Barton Community College Foundation's 38th Annual Big Benefit Auction themed "A Political Party" are available now until Monday, Aug. 15. College completes extensive program review

A review of programs at Barton Community College shows business courses generate the most credit hours on campus and a good deal of income. In a presentation to the BCC Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Vice President Robin Garrett also mentioned at least one program that may be phased out in the future.

Ellinwood City Council approves 2017 budget

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood City Council met Monday night, and began the meeting with a brief public hearing of the 2017 budget which was published earlier in the Ellinwood Leader. The mill levy will remain virtually the same as last year, City Attorney Bob Peter summarized. No public comments, so the hearing was closed. Ken Lebbin moved to approve the budget, seconded by Kirk Clawson. The council approved the budget unanimously.

Waterpark season ends Sunday

Sunday is the final day that the Wetlands Water Park at Great Bend will be open for public swimming this year. Weather permitting, the pool is open daily from 12:30-5:30 p.m.
