The Young Swedish Singers to visit Great Bend

The Young Swedish Singers, a 34-member gospel singing group from Hässleholm, Skåne, Sweden, will appear in concert at Trinity Lutheran Church, 24th and Adams, in Great Bend, at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19. The group's tour includes stops in Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and Iowa.

Seat belt crackdown leads to other arrests

The annual crackdown on motorists not wearing their seat belts can sometimes lead to other things, Barton County Sheriff Greg Armstrong said. This week, one of his deputies stopped an unbuckled motorist and wound up arresting that person for driving with a suspended license.

FSA Emergency Loans available because of natural disasters

Adrian J. Polansky, State Executive Director for USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Kansas announced that FSA is making emergency loans available to help qualified producers recover from production and physical losses due to natural disasters.

Drivers ed meeting set for next week

All students enrolled in Unified School District 428 drivers education must meet at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1., in the Great Bend High School auditorium. At this time, driving instructors will assign driving times and driving partners. This will take approximately one hour to an hour and a half.

Foundation Clay Shoot nets nearly $10,000 for mini grants

It didn't take a record number of shooters this year to raise a record amount of net proceeds for the Fourth Annual Sporting Clay Shoot, held April 17 at LaSada Sporting Clays and Hunting Service, Russell. Barton Community College's Foundation raised net proceeds of $9,864, bolstered by a larger number of sponsorships for this year's event compared to previous years. This year's event attracted 146 shooters, 14 fewer than last year's record turnout, but this year's event netted nearly $730 more than a year ago.

Pair of new Pheasants Forever Farm Bill Wildlife Biologists in Kansas

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever announce the addition of two new Farm Bill Wildlife Biologist positions in Kansas. Kirby Calhoun will cover Dickenson, Clay, Ottawa and nearby counties, while Mark Witecha will be covering Ness, Lane, Hodgeman and nearby counties. The positions were created in partnership with the Kansas division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
