Cold Weather Rule to end Monday

TOPEKA – The Kansas Cold Weather Rule ends Monday, and Kansans who are delinquent on electric and natural gas utility bills will be subject to disconnection of service. The rule, in effect November 1 through March 31 each year, provides protection to residential customers who cannot fully pay winter utility bills from companies under the Kansas Corporation Commission's jurisdiction.

Young artists' exhibit at Deines Center

RUSSELL -- The next exhibit at The Deines Cultural Center will be "Art at Your Fingertips," a show of a variety of media by elementary through high school students in USD 407. The show opens this Friday, March 28, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Deines Cultural Center, located at 820 North Main in Russell. The exhibit will be up through May 9. Admission is free and the center is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Butterfly gardens attract 'flying flowers'

A colorful program on creating butterfly gardens was given by Becky Dudrey at the March Garden Club meeting in Great Bend. Using the magazine Birds and Blooms as a resource, Dudrey shared photos of the 10 most popular butterfly species, and described the best plants to attract butterflies.
