A resolution approved by the Great Bend City Council Monday night should help bring more affordable rental housing for the communities seniors. The action supported the application for tax credits to aid in a new Housing Opportunities Inc. development adjacent to the current Cherry Village senior apartments in southwest Great Bend.
The Great Bend City Council was told Monday night that the number of Convention and Visitors Bureau projects has grown steadily since the first of the year. That was when the city officially took over the operations of the CVB.
Sen. Bob Dole donated $20,000 to Camp Hope, a weeklong getaway for children with cancer held at Camp Aldrich. The funds are to be used for the benefit of Camp Hope. The Camp Aldrich Dining and Events Center burned down in April of 2014, which was Camp Hope's preferred venue.
This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by the Comfort Inn, 911 Grant St., at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Host will be Marty Steinert with greeters Shannon Stafford and Cindy Parr. Coffee, refreshments and door prizes will be available.
The Great Bend City Council Monday night agreed with the findings of Building Inspector Lee Schneider and Code Enforcement Officer Stuart Baker that a dilapidated trailer house at 26 Hickory St. is unsafe and dangerous and set a public hearing for 7:30 p.m. March 21, prior to the City Council meeting at City Hall to discuss the matter.
