Citrus fruit arrives

The Indian River citrus fruit will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Dec. 7-8 at the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1 mile west of 10th St. and Patton Road. Those who ordered fruit should pick up their orders at that time.

Producers invited to attend informational meetings

The Barton County FSA Office will be holding two informational meetings on the 2014 Farm Bill on December 8 and 9. On Dec. 8, the meeting will be at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Kansas Wetlands Center, 592 NE K-156 Highway. The second meeting will be the evening of Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and will be at the Great Bend Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St.

GBHS bands to present concerts on Monday

Great Bend High School band directors said the GBHS Jazz, Junior Varsity and Varsity Bands will offer season's greetings to everyone when they perform at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in the GBHS Gym.

Oilfield and United Way

Ron Smith, UWCK Board Member and Frank Kelly, 2015 Oilfield Committee Members, along with Scott Reddig, Edward Neimich and David Thill are helping the United Way make a difference in their community. The group has set a goal of $40,000. Scott and Ron helped sponsor an Oilfield Radio-a-Thon. Karen Reddig, Tama Hanson, Becca Maxwell, Ronda Sjogren, Board Members, made calls for the event that raised over $10,000 from Oilfield supporters in the community. Game Wardens, KHP Troopers to conduct checkpoint

Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism (KDWPT) game wardens and Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) troopers will conduct a joint checkpoint in south central Kansas in early December. The firearms deer season will open Dec. 3, pheasant and quail seasons opened Nov. 8, the greater prairie chicken regular season started Nov. 15, and duck and goose seasons are also underway. The checkpoint is intended to help enforce state and federal wildlife laws, as well as the state's driver's licensing laws.

Cancer Benefit

A Whole Hog Feed Cancer Benefit will be held for Valarie Smith-Dellrocco at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Central Baptist Church, Lakin and Harrison in Great Bend. Valarie, a resident of Great Bend, was diagnosed with cancer in June 2014. She is now in remission. Funds from the feed will help pay hospital bills.

Hoisington Masonic Lodge 331 meeting

The Hoisington Masonic Lodge 331, will meet on Saturday at 351 West Second Street. Coffee and doughnuts will be served from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Work will start at 8:30 a.m. on several Degrees (two Firsts and at least one Second Degree). A light lunch will be served after work is completed. All Master Masons are welcome.

The Ellinwood Chamber Coffee was held at Ellinwood School/Community Library on November 21st. Mary Jeroue was the guest of honor. FBLA shared stories with the group about their leadership conference in Minneapolis, Minn. They also created posters to promote staying at home to shop for Christmas.
